Anytime you go to the doctor to get this kind of medication, all they say when they guess and prescribe something wrong is "Psychiatry is not an exact science." They use that as an excuse to use you, like a guinea pig, to try this and that medication because even THEY don't always understand how or why exactly they work or in your case... don't.
It therefore often takes them years to both get to the root of a persons problems and to find the proper medication. Everything works differently on all people even when they often show the same exact symptoms outwardly, it doesn't necessarily mean that the chemicals in the brain are doing the same thing to cause this outward reaction and medications do not work on outward reactions they work on serotonin and dopamine along with a few other components. They often make the outward symptoms worse... while fixing the actual chemical channels in the brain... go figure? Maybe they weren't broke? Maybe you just needed to adjust your nutrition and take some vitamins like amino's or the B vitamins? They NEVER tell you that or even consider it in therapy.
You are better off giving your liver a break and go to a psychologist and use that same time to find out what is the cause of your feelings and correct them the old fashioned way. By experiencing them and feeling them.

hi prozac worked for me for a little while than i was on an even keel i was hoping to be completly better but i haven't so i came of them cold turkey. It has been 2 weeks now without taking one i sleep better i even dream actually most of them are stupid nightmares though but i am feeling better i have a caring hubby so if he notices any differences in me he would tell me and i could sort it out. I mainly know how to cope now i close my eyes really tight and thing about something nice, or i step away from the situation. Or i go into my bedroom alone and punch my pillow or cry and i do feel better afterwards. Prozac worked for me about 3 months and i had enough so i came off it. Apart from being really thick now there are no real side effects except for the first week i was feeling nausea. Good luck

There is no "legal" medication that actually cheers you up...honestly dude..the only real solution is to help yourself. Depression is one of the most over diagnosed illness's out there...most doctors will just prescribe anyone who feels depressed prozac, paxil, all thoes anti depressants...you know why? because the more prescriptions they write the more money they get...the best thing to do is dump all the pills and work on curing yourself...it really works because I have done it and so have many other people...Its all a state of mind..i can't just explain how to do it but you just have to do it.

It does work for me, however, as with any anti-depressant, you have to stick with it for at least six weeks to get the benefits and not just the side effects. Also, different meds work for different people, if there is someone in your familiy who is successfully taking an anti-depressant, you might try that, or see a psychopharmacologist, the specialize in the pharamcology part of the equation and seem to know the drugs quite well. Hope this helps.

It really did work for me. I have OCD and years ago really was desperate for something to help. Co-incidentally saw a programme made in America about Prozak and then bumped into someone who worked for MIND in the same week. Went to a OCD meeting and found that most of them were on Prozak. Went to doc and got some and it improved my life 100 fold. Thank you Prozak. It does take a while to start working but sounds as if (cos of your symptoms) maybe it wasn't the one for you. You should maybe try some others. Not everything agrees with everyone the same. Good luck.

I have never come across a case yet where Prozac has actually helped. so No not in my experience. Every person I have known go on it has not improved untill after they have got themselves off it and learned new strategies for dealing with their lives and understood the driving force of their depression.

I used to take Prozac for a while. It just stop your depressivness and make you not think of any bad things. I have noticed that Prozac makes me smarter in someway. My brain worked just fine when I used it. My studying was better and I was "steady and ready" on my classes.

Hubby has been taking it for 12 years it seems to work for him. Twice they tried to change it and twice they had to put him back on Prozac.

There is no ultimate remedy for bad mood except changing your own viewpoint of life. Prozac doesn't work if you don't need it.
