well.. not really. It is like a gentle and more informal way to break up as well as its spares all the drama of a painful break up.

I dont think I would define it as poor etiquette... but it is definitely taking the easy way out... I think the person deserves to HEAR from you just in case there are any unanswered questions... The worst break ups are the ones with no closure! I suggest you talk to the person, at the very least by phone.

do you like to break someone's heart? E-mails may not be the preferred choice, but they take into account the fact that this is a tender situation, and sometimes painful for both parties involoved. Etiquette is the last thing that is on someone's mind during a time like this!

Just my opinion so take it as just that but I would say that it shows no etiquette at all. It is the chickens way to break up nowadays as there is no contact with the other person or looking in the eyes as the deed is done.

Is this like the dear John letters of old? I would think it is poor etiquette to not sit the person down and explain the whys to them.

That may be the harder of the two, but it is the better.

Well it's a bit better than Text!
Better an email than no word at all.
Far better 2 this sort of thing face 2 face.
