Are you people for real? If so, then you have given me all the reasons in the world never to become a christian and use the bible only as a paper weight.

Well, doesn't really make any sense if there have been dinosaur bones that're over 65 million years old now would it?

You use the bible as paper weight? You have more respect for it then I have. Lit a bonfire with it once. The paper was great since it was so thin and dry.

I don't believe this but I wouldn't call such a belief "dumb". Any belief sounds "dumb" to a non believer. I think the evidence for evolution and for a universe which is bazillions of years old is overwhelming, and this is a question for science. However, those who believe that it is a question of faith probably never look at the scientific evidence, or if they do they only look at bits and pieces, so that they can retain their beliefs. This is just a cognitive/psychological process by which they reinforce what they already hold to true. Everyone does this, which is why I think it's a struggle to keep an open mind about many things, especially religion and politics, and now unfortunately also about science.

Of course the world and the universe are only 6,000 years old. That is why new stars appear in the sky every night as the light from stars over 6,000 light years away finally reach Earth.
As far as dinosaurs having been on Earth long ago, that was disproved in the documentary series, "The Flintstones" which showed, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that man existed at the same time as they did until God, in his infinite wisdom, killed them all and buried their bones deep in the ground. I hope this has made everything clear for you.

You sound very closed-minded.

A large number of scientists believe that by putting flouride in the water, we're saving our teeth. Some of them believe that is causing cancer.

A large number of scientists beleive that the HIV virus causes AIDS. Some of them believe that HIV has nothing to do with AIDS.

Once upon a time, a large number of medical professionals believed that bleeding someone out was a cure for the common cold. That was from the best minds of the day, and they have been proven wrong.

Once upon a time, a whole bunch of medical professionals used accupuncture to cure disease. Then scientists "got smart" and stopped doing that. Now, those ancient arts are coming back because new evidence and proof has come in line--but many people still "don't believe those quacks" because of old-school "scientific" thinking.

There's lots of evidence pointing to a young earth.
--Niagra Falls is less than 10,000 years old
--The US Army Corps of Engineers reports that the Mississippi River Delta is less than 10,000 years old
--The Sahara Deseret is less than 10,000 years old
--There is less than 10,000 years of accumulated space dust on the moon
--There is less than 10,000 years of sediment on the bottom of the oceans
--There is less than 10,000 years of accumulated salt in the ocean waters

All of these point to a relatively young earth. Oh, and in case you're wondering... 10,000 years is a real long time.

Are you "scientific" enough to set your beliefs on the table for a few minutes and examine a new idea?

Believing in something does not always have to be dumb, even if its not true.
OK, I did read some parts of the bible when I was young and curious and yes its nonsense, but well, its what believe is all about, its peoples own chose.

The broader question is how long a year is in "God" like terms. Keeping an open mind to science and Christian beliefs could aid in the two sides coming closer together. One year of creation could translate to 160,000 years by today's definition.

Welcome to the millenium. The most read newspapers are tabloids. And they believe in Bigfoot and Elvis.
However, you would be hard pressed to out think all Christians. The church has been the protector of public education on all levels since the early centuries. And that includes accomplishments in all subject areas and not just religion.

Yes, I am 'for real.' The derisive desrespect was a bit uncalled for, don't you think?

Why do you believe that the world is more than 6,000 years old?
I have my reasons for what I believe; I am not a blind follower. I would be happy to share them with you, if you care enough to make contact. Nicely.
