I'm having a tough time training my 6 month old puppy to use the wee wee pads. He seems to pee and go #2 everywhere but the pads and I don't know how to get him to stop. I have him under constant supervision so that whenever we see him getting ready to go, we grab him and put him on the pad and then reward him, but if we don't do that he will just go anywhere. Any tips on how to make this easier for the both us? Also, I noticed that sometimes when he has to go (for both pee & #2) he stands on his hind legs and goes, is this normal? He also won't make eye contact when he is being held, are these serious problems that need to be addressed with a vet or just normal dog/puppy behavior?

My puppy is male and the pads are more convenient since there will be periods of time during the day when we will not be home to let him out and I don't want him to have to hold it until we get home. I have a 3yr old female who only goes on the pads since she really doesn't like going outside and I want it to be the same for him.

Well my dogs are both girls, and they didnt learn to use them till they were almost one! And they only use them when it is raining out and they dont wanna go outside, so if you want to teach them wait until it is raining, and make sure you give him a treat as soon as he does his buisniss, lol, well that doesnt help that much, sorry, good luck!

I don't understand why you are trying to get him to go on wee wee pads, why not just take him outside. I have never had to train a dog for pads, but to train one for outside what you need to do is: Take him out every 1/2 hour, teach him the words "GO POTTY" and then when he goes throw him a party, get excited, tell him GOOD BOY, GOOD POTTY, then give him a treat. Repeat. I'm sure this can also work with the pads.

As for him not looking you directly in the eye, that is a pecking order submission thing. He is just showing to you that he is not dominant, and that you are. I hope this helps. Good luck.

When you use those pads you are teaching him its ok to potty in the house. Throw them out and take him outside, when he potties outside give him lots of praise.

I wouldn't consult a Vet for behavioral issues, most know next to nothing about behavior. Get him into a puppy kindergarten class. Its VERY good for him and there will be a trainer to answer questions. Go to a serious training club, NOT Petsmart or Petco, most of their trainers are awful.
