Hi,
It depends on how it smells, if you've just bought it at the store and brought it home - smell it - if it has no odor or a very light fish smell - it's ok. Otherwise take it and the receipt back to the store and tell them you want it replaced with fresher salmon. If you purchased it some time ago - the smell test is still valid. Fish is Ok unless it smells very fishy by rule of thumb. Some fish, like Mackrel, etc. smell 'fishy' all the time - so you have to use a different technique - like feeling the fish - if it's slimy - DO NOT EAT -
If you choose to freeze the salmon today - and eat it another day - just remember that frozen meat will begin to decay immediately when it thaws - so if the fish is somewhat 'old' when you freeze it, it will go bad very quickly after you defrost it.
hope this helps

Sell by date doesn't necessarily mean expiry date. If you still worry a little about the freshness, then rub a little salt into the salmon before you cook it. Alternatively, to remove the 'fishy' taste in fish that isn't so fresh, rub a little ginger into the salmon before cooking it.

I had a cook tell me along time ago to always soak my seafood or fish in Dry Vermouth be for cooking it gets rid of the fish taste and smell. If you have kept it cold or frozen it should be ok. BW

I would say that it's still fine. The "sell by" date is USUALLY a few days before the "serve by" date.

yes. as long as you cook it and eat it or cook it and freeze it today. if its frozen and the date on it is today then you can defrost it in the fridge and keep it for 3 days before you need to throw it out. or keep it frozen and it will be ok for another 3 months in the freezer.

as long as the cold chain was sustained no problem in eating it today... I'm working in a food company myself and on our products (okay, pasta, not exactly the same) the best before date is way shorter than it could be. so don't worry for a single day...

yes its the sell date not the good till day.
sell day just means you shouldn't sell it after because its not as fresh anymore. but you can still eat it a few days later as long as you put it in the fridge.

It's certainly okay for today. Usually food is okay beyond the sell by date. With fish, smell it. If you don't like the smell, don't eat it.

As long as its cooked thoroughly, you will be okay. Practice safe food handling guidelines. If you don't know what those are, you need to give up your kids for adoption.
