Do you really like him or do you just want him to like you? How would you feel if you were in your friend's shoes? Do you really want to pursue him, knowing you are not his first choice? If you do, you will alienate your friend and eventually resent this guy. Why do you think he's so great anyway? Is he worth more than your friendship with your best friend? Can you think of 10 things you like about his character? Think about it...

It's not bad, but you're only harming yourself because he likes her. You should talk to your friend and see if she likes him and if she wants to be with him. If she says a firm "no"...then ask her if she would be bothered if you would try to date him :)
