Depending on the service, salon, and time it took to cut my hair, $4-$10. I would consider tipping more if the cut was spectacular or if the hairdresser confided that she was a single mother/ pregnant and poor, ect. Usually around $6 for a $40 cut.

I dont understand why we have to tip for a haircut. we are already paying an outrageous amount of money and hairdressers make a decent wage. Its not like a waitress who is dependent on our tip as her income. I do thank her but i rarely leave a tip. If i do its not much.

yes -it's a polite thing to do. I usually leave 15-20% tip (which is about $5-7), since I usually just get a haircut.
When I have something more complex done, or if I didn't have an appoitment, but she squeazed me in, or went out of her way for me, I tip more

i think it depends on what ur hair looks like afterwards if you are happy with it i say give them 20%. i was very upset with my last hair cut i only gave her a $1 the time before i was so excited they did a great job i gave them a 30% tip and came back up in my going out clothes and brought them cookies they took my picture and hung it at their work station

i thank mine, for tips, when i just get a trim, its about 20$ so i tip 5$, and when its a new style, its 30$ so i usually do around 8 or 9. it just depends on the quality of your haircut

Sea Sher is wrong.... stylists... most of us... depend completely on the cost of the services we give, and the tips, we have to PAY to work, most times (we rent our space).
so we really appreciate tips, and we also remember who tips and who doesn't.
We work hard doing head after head, so a $5 tip for a haircut is not unreasonable, 7-10 for a color or highlight, and 25+ for extensions etc....
