The "nothing" part is the most troublesome of concepts. Even in physics there's the notion of physical entities coming in and out of existence - even "empty space" has characteristics. It may well be that the common notion of "nothing" is not much more than a poetic concept.

Why should there be nothing rather than something?

Interestingly, if there were nothing, there wouldn't be anything to prevent the spontaneous existence of everything. If there were nothing, there would be nothing to enforce "Something can't come from nothing".
