There is no actual proof of how tall it was but the verse in the Bible does say "reached unto heaven?" (Gen. 11:4). I can only assume that at the time it was really high up much taller than the buildings at the time (but probably not as tall as ours are now)
It wasnt the action of building a tower it was the reason behind it. They wanted to elevate themselves above God, there were also many symbols on the tower that were not of God i.e. signs of the zodiac and to stop them doing this God punished them by giving them different languages and scattering them over the world. It is believed that about 70 different languages were created. Some have evolved since then to form different dialects of the same language.

First of all, man can never reach heaven from Earth with his own inventions and buildings. But reading from that Tower of Babel story, it sounds like the tower was very high up past 30 stories high. The men were so focus on reaching the heavens that they were completely side tracked from accomplishing other things in life. They wanted to take over heaven - that is not going to happen and it never will. Looking at the motives of their hearts, God had to confuse their language so that they would not continue to build.

You wil find this in Genesis 11:1-9 (NIV version)
3 "They said to each other, "Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."
8 "So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel [c] —because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth."

We do not know how high they built the tower.
I am a Christian, but I think the purpose of this story is to illustrate that we can't get to God through any 'man-made' ways, but only, in those days by prayer and their belief and faith in God. Today, it is thorugh Jesus that we can come to God.
Hope this helps:>)

We just talked about the Tower of Babel in church yesterday. The Bible doesn't say how tall it was, but according to other ancient manuscripts it was taller than the Giza pyramid, aprox. 396 feet tall. It was a modern wonder of the world in that day. If it was still around, its height was not surpassed until the building of the Eiffel tower. I can find the literature for you if you'd like.

A metaphor.
Everyone knew you can't build something that high. To get to heaven.
They were building a tower from which to practice astrology.
A divination tower.
God did not want this done.
So he confused the languages and the people were scattered to different parts of the world.
It was the first recorded attempt at occult practices.
Being scattered, really slowed it down.

6347 feet 3 and a half inches. LOL actually the Bible doesn't say because it doesn't really matter if they had only gotten 1 foot off the ground it wasn't the action that God was concerned about. It was thier hearts. Notice God doesn't stop us from building tall buildings or sending Rockets to Mars and beyond because we are not claiming as we do it that we are trying to reach HEAVEN we are instead on a quest to discover more about God's creation and that he applauds and will not stop. The wonders of the Heavens PROCLAIM his majesty and as we know more we get closer to him. (despite what a vocal minority of scientists claim)

The tower of Babel is reported in the Bible as having been built in the valley of Shinar, but it does not say how high it had reached by the time of God's alteration of their languages.

It is just a story of its day - not to be taken literally. Reaching heaven - it is not a place but rather a state of being in connectedness with God our Mother.

he's got those ear pieces on that they have in conventions, probably John is doing all the europoen languages and moses is doing all the middle eastern langauges and Isiah is doing all the asian languages. I would imagine its all hands free technology up there and the ear pieces are quite small and sophisticated!
