which version r wat kind of emulator will give full pledged Linux environment in windows 2000 professional..?
mine is a old IBM PC of PII with 15GB 'n 288MB RAM...
plz... suggest da links to download (ofcourse free...)

NO version of Linux will run side-by-side with windows at the same time on a Pentium II with 288 MB of RAM. You can dual boot ANY version of linux, but forget running it inside 2000. For that you would need Virtual PC or VMWare and they need MUCH faster systems to work with any reasonable speed. Not to mention MUCH more RAM.

I would suggest you download a copy of Knoppix, Ubuntu, or Suse (Live version) and boot to it when you want to.

There is something of a linix emulator for Windows in Cygwin - but it's not a full linux distibution. http://www.cygwin.com/

If u need to install LINUX in windows plate form so u need to download "VM Ware" ( Virtual Machine Ware ) then configure it as computer and install a linux in windows and enjoy

Those are two different OS's. I'd set up a dual-boot configuration, not try to mess around with any emulator. Especially with that old hardware.
