I just want to tell you: don't be scare. Everybody feels like that at one time or another. If everybody stopped doing something for being afraid, nothing would be done. What you are trying to do will be the best for you and your children. I wish you the best. You deserved for your willingness to work hard for a better future. And don't be mistaken, it will be hard.

All depends on the nursing program. what kind is it? 4 year bachelor's degree or 2 year associates? If its a 4 year program, how will they be doing the classes? Usually, they require that you take the liberal arts core coursework for the bachelor's degree before you get into the actual nursing part. Some schools do it the other way around. For most 2 year programs, the first semester or two doesn't have any clinicals. Since you say that you got accepted I assume this to mean that you've completed your prerequisites already. In any of these scenarios, for at least the first semester you will have just lectures and nursing lab (they will send you there to practice stuff on dummies before you start working with real patients). You really won't have a problem with time until you have to start going to clinicals. You will have a LOT of reading to do for those first two Nursing Process classes---and I mean A LOT; many chapters of the textbook each week. Will YOU be able to split your time between taking care of your kids and doing all this studying? I know people who have done it, so it IS possible. What I'm getting at here is that nursing school will demand a HUGE chunk of your time, from the very beginning all the way through. And it gets more challenging as you move from the nursing process courses to the med surg courses. You have to get up early in the morning to get to the hospital where you will do your clinicals. You have to study, study, study. And you have to go to the lab to practice, practice, practice your nursing skills. I wouldn't say its impossible but its going to be a real challenge to do it as a single parent when your kids are that young. You're going to need help. How will your daughter get to the bus on those mornings when you have to go to clinical? And as you said, who will stay with your son until the day care place opens to take him there? My suggestion is to start socializing in the neighborhood and make some friends so that maybe one of them will be willing to help you out.

First get in touch with a counselor at the Jr. college. They will be able to tell you every pre-req class you will need. I am a single mom too trying to go back to school and I know it is difficult, you can always apply for student financial aid. Nursing would be a great career, and think.. you'll be able to fix almost any booboos!! ;) Good luck!
