I like many others pay the goverment huge amounts of money to the nhs for a poor service.most dentists nowadays are private and they cost a fortune for basic dental treatment, which in turn means more people staying away and having dental problems because they cant afford the dentists prices.tony blair you and this present goverment are a joke, and the nhs is at a all time low esp the dentists.

Well, when I lived in England, I could only go to the dentist as an absolute emergency, as all the local dentists were private.

I moved up to Scotland, and didn't bother signing up for ages, until my husband got an abcess in his tooth. I had to 'phone around, trying to get an emergency appointment. I don't know if I was simply lucky, but I managed to get an NHS appointment in the next small town along, which was quicker than going for the private option! My husband and I have been with this dentist for 3 years, now, and they've been brilliant. I only ever need a check up, and that's now free, so I'm not complaining about the state of dentists in Scotland at all! Very impressed with the level of service to date.

However, I do agree with your comments about the NHS and the "input" of this present government - they've not done anything to promote the health of the nation, bar privatise it. Isn't that what the Torys were supposed to do? Go on - what's the difference between "new" Labour and the Conservatives? Jiggered if I know...

It's a myth that NHS dental treatment is free.

There really isn't much of a price difference when treatment is needed.

You can cover your costs with a dental plan. Your gob is assessed and the cost of the premiums depend on the state of it.

The situation is not going to change no matter how much the public complain, I think.

I am lucky though. My dentist recalls me just once a year and I get charged £47 for the check up and a half hour with the hygienist. That's less than £4 per month.

I don't think people value their mouths and teeth as much as they do non-health related stuff. Like car insurance and extended warranties - it's a matter of priorities.

Unfortunately most of the dentists in the UK opted out of the government's pay structure (most likely because it was crap) therefore they can deny NHS treatment and only take on private work. NHS cost dental work is about 80% cost of private work unless you are on benefits then you get mostly free treatment - assuming you can find an NHS dentist in the first place, that is!!!
So, in other words, there are very few NHS dentists because they can make more money privately.

Sorry, no results were found to match your search of (1) part postcode - so much for the link.

And when I use a postcode that should work:

This Dental Practice is

NOT Currently Accepting New Fee Paying NHS Patients
NOT Accepting New Charge Exempt Adults for NHS Treatment
NOT Accepting New Children Aged 0-18 years for NHS Treatment
DOES NOT Provide Urgent Dental Access Slots

My dentist made all the patients to stay with him between the ages of 16 and 65, go PRIVATE. As a result there are NO NHS Dentists in my area, and I have NOT been able to see a dentist in nearly 10 years.

I have just signed on to an NHS dents in Peterborough who is taking on new patients. It was a private only practise but they have just employed three extra dentists for NHS patients and I got an appointment for two weeks time. There is also a local dental practise, private patients but they only charge NHS fees for everyone, even OAP's who usually don't pay anything over 65.

I have a patient who works as a dental hygienist in England and SHE FLIES HOME TO USA TO SEE ME TWICE A YEAR TO GET HER TEETH CLEANED!

She says that nobody in England knows how to clean teeth. Unquote.

NHS pay must be so bad that no decent dentist is willing to work for that rate. In my state, it's pretty much acknowledged that only the dentists who could not get patients any other way are willing to work for the low reimbursement offered by Medicaid, so maybe the NHS is the same way.

Yes. Was not completely satisfied with my nearby dentist, as handled like cattle. Went to a metropolis centre dentist, private, and was once requested if I wanted to go NHS. No predicament, have been with him due to the fact that and he has taken the leisure of my accelerated family and is still promoting as both a exclusive and NHS dentist watching for consumers. Edit: acquired to only say i have had the identical experience as the submit under me but the dentist i'm with now treats me with respect and continually has time to listen. I concept at first it used to be due to the fact I had gone personal however at the 2d discuss with he instructed me he was accepting NHS and that i modified over and was dealt with no another way. He's a amazing dentist - St Ann's square, Manchester. E mail me if you would like a dentist in Manchester, I definitely advocate him.

you can ring my practice the same day and get an emeregencey appointment if you are registerd and none regisitered !!!

all 11 of us stayed in the nhs..........even though it is pants

private dentisrty DOES NOT earn you more.it means you see less patients.

its not all the dentisits fault.its the system that is placed on them by peolpe in offices who dont do dentistry.

so BOG OFF WITH BELLS ON when you say there are no DECENT DENTISTS...there are more than you would like to think. look into the facts b4 making statements such as that.

question - if a nurse was told she could work less hours and get paid the same /potentially more-if she went private...would she be an undecent person?????
