If you don't you are interfering with the avionics and you are putting everyone at risk The FAA is looking into allowing limited usage. You can use other electronics in an aircraft, such as your computer, video games etc. If you refuse to turn off your cell phone when asked to, you will be in violation with the FAA and will be charged. Your fine could be up to $2000 civil penalty.

Please, TURN OFF YOUR PHONES while flying!

i turn off my cell whenever i'm around other people.

it's freaking rude, i hate it every time a cell rings... then it's blah blah blah. i really love it when they got it on walkie talkie mode or even speaker mode... when there's folks around trying to do other things like watch a movie, eat, stand in line waiting for anything.. so on.

it's just rude, some should learn the proper mannerisms to everything and practise them.

turn it off when you're in those situations.

it'll make for a nicer experience.

if there's an emergency i'm sure they'll understand..

emergency meaning something dire not OMG I forgot to call my friend and go blah blah blah for hours on end.

oh and that 911 stuff planes weren't equipped with the sources to get cell phones to trasmit at high altitudes yet.... that's before 2004. so if anyone believes that cell phone crap on planes and jets before 2004 (when they put in those build in antenna systems - satillite trasponders... ) are fools. before 2004 you flip on a cell phone in a jet.. forget you get no signal, no network, sorry i call no way on that fantasy.

sorry.

Yes. I turn my cell phone off. Why wouldn't you?
The FCC has stated that our cell phones could interfere with the air planes instruments giving pilots incorrect readings.
My friend is a pilot and he has told me that they do interfere. It may not be much but why risk your life and the lives of others. Respect life.

Of Course! If your phone transmits any signals during takeoff, it can seriously affect the pilot's navigation and communication systems from receiving the correct signals. Which may result in a crash. Which is bad. Why doens't it matter in the air? I don't quite know. But its bad on ground.

Yes, I did. It only has to stay off a little while before/during takeoff and then again at landing.

Certainly we can live w/out our trusty device for that long in order to be safe.

Not such a big deal.

yes. not because i think its going to effect something on the plane, but why let the battery die out just cause you're not going to use it for the next few hours. besides, who needs to get in trouble when it starts beeping?
i think its funny that you cant use them, but its ok to use the one on the back of the seat thats like $10 a minute.
