I really don't see the appeal of living for all eternity. Most people I've met who lived to 90 were sitting around waiting for life to be over. (And I'm pretty sure they were hoping that there wasn't going to be an afterlife.)
Living for eternity is unimaginable. I don't care how great heaven could be, even being happy for that long would start to feel bad after awhile. Eventually you'd just want it all to end.
Did this whole idea come about, because people are afraid of the unknown and since no one knows for sure what happens after you die, this was the 'happy' option?

We are created in God's image, therefore, we are eternal beings. We only have a sense of time when we're physically alive. In the spiritual realm, there will be no sense of time as we have now. People who live to be 90+ are living in an old/ tired body. That's why they feel the way they do.
God promises eternal salvation and grace for those who trust Him.

The difference between living a long time on earth and living forever in eternity(Heaven for me) is that on earth we are never completely fulfilled, whereas in Heaven our hearts will be full of the love of God, therefore we will not know boredom or any other negative emotion or feeling.

well i agree if heaven was just sitting on the rocker on the porch all the time that would be boring. but in the religion im in, we believe that the eternities are going to be filled with work. we believe that we can have everything that are heavenly has. so we will be working on a eternal family. doing the samething that god has done for us.

Well, the only fun part, would be seeing how the world developes. And of course, living life to the fullest, right? But it would get pretty damn boring, after 1000 years or so, especially if we have another "Dark Age" period, where nothing happens for 150+ years.

that would be the attractiveness of buddhism, you are looking for non-existence instead of eternal existence.
I agree, like I am now I wouldn't enjoy eternal live. If I change to enjoy it, I won't be me any more, so why should I look forward to it?
The whole concept of afterlive is wishful thinking, and who ever says that getting what one wishes for turns always out good?

You can't compare this life to the after life, years would seem like minutes. I don't blame anyone who has lived to 90 to wait die, have you turned on the news lately. Rape, murder, Bush, gas prices, bills, taxes, illness. In the afler life it will be paradise, when I went on my cruise it was as close to paradise as I have ever been, and I didn't want it to end.

Yes. The only tolerable way to spend eternity is complete oblivion.

Eternal life is not mortal; hence it cannot be lived mortally. Where is the boredom factor coming into this life then?
