Just like for the U.S., Canada has no place there......
People can say what ever they want about Paul Martin, however, he was very firm about the issue and has refused to fight this war....
Stephen Harper is trying soooo hard to kiss George Bushes' *** that he is willing to sacrifice his own people, his country for it. I DID NOT vote for him as his intentiones were transperent to me from the beinning.... He is an industrialist, maybe not as bad as Bush, but he is one......
If Canada goes to war or it we get hit, Stephen Harper will be mostly the one to blame.....
Are deaths worth it???? Absoulutely not!!! My own brother has just made a decision to join the Canadian Army full time.... I am petrified to death for him and I pray the lord he does not get accepted..... He knows that this is not our war to fight, but his decision is made.... It kills me inside.....
Stephen Harper can go to hell for sending our youth to war.... Our Army is not even properly equiped for these types of situations !!!

I'm a Canadian voter and I'm not too pleased bout the soldiers coming home in boxes ,i didn't and would have never voted for Harper mainly because of him wanting to be so much like bush not that there is anything wrong with bush it just reminds me of a time in the eighties when Mulroney was prime minister and bush senior was president can you say recession its coming any hoo getting back to Afghanistan i think it sucks and i predict that more soldiers coming home in boxes but what are we supposed to do i just wish they would stop calling it peace keeping when clearly its all out war,i sincerely hope that some of the Canadian soldiers can find ussama bin laden remember him the mass murderer how come no one can find him seriously hes like 6 ft 7 in a country of midgets anyway it all sucks and there is nothing sadder than a pine box wrapped in a Canadian flag with that annoying bag pipe music i tell you what though we had better get used to hearing it cause its gonna get worse before it gets better.

It's interesting how the only person who supports the Canadian policy in Afghanistan is a member of the Canadian Forces. Yet, most of the people opposed to troops being in Afghanistan do so because they wish to protect their troops. Why then don't you pay attention to them? They are saying that they want and need to be there! I get similarly frustrated in my country because of the same thing! Civilians keep telling me that the military shouldn't be in harms way at present, but I'm the one risking my life! Doesn't my opinion matter? Why don't we EVER hear from troops in the media?

Stephen Harper is changing the face of Canada as a peacebroker by bending his knee to George Bush and compromising our stability, freedom and well being. We're turning into the US's errand boy, cleaning after them and trampling over our dignity.

I'm a soldier too, mate. And just this weekend there was a bit of a going-away party for one of my friends who's about to head over. Can't say I'm thrilled that he's headed over there, but going to dangerous places, that's what soldiers do. We train long, and we train hard for this. They run us through more exercises than you can shake a stick at before we head over. We become damned good at what we do.
Our job as soldiers isn't to dig Toronto out of a snow bank. It's to project Canada's interests and policies abroad and protect Canadian interests and policies back home. Being in Afghanistan falls in a plan that I don't really know. Above my pay grade.
We didn't start that fight in Afghanistan, but to not join it would be foolish. There are enough terrorist groups operating in Canada to make people who aren't in the know go pale. Trust me on that. Hell, there's at least 3 cells in the city I live in, a base town, nonetheless. And because we have extremely lax laws for immigration, and even visa enforcement, this is a haven for the bad guys to strike at anywhere they want, raise funds, recruit, train, get education. Whole nine yards. And since our government can't do sweet nothing here, thanks to the importance we give to public opinion, we have to get to where those who would train and hide and raise money here start from.
As for the deaths, well, soldiers die. It's the sad truth. I wish that none of those guys came back in boxes. But this is a high-risk occupation, performed in a high-risk area. We will lose people. Our military is all-volunteer, people willingly join and there are enough checks and controls that anyone has a chance to back out before deploying. Those over in Afghanistan wanted to be there. It is a shame that they have lost their lives there.
And really, in 5 years in Afghanistan, we've lost a little over 20. In Iraq, American casualties alone are what, around 3000 over the last 3 years and change? How about the Afghanistan casualties?
Harper isn't doing Canada a disfavor by extending our commitment out there. Under the LIberals, Canada became a joke on the international scene and now we're starting to climb out of that slump. Hopefully, we'll claw out and re-take our place in global affairs out of this. It's not going to be in the short term, but then again, with politics nothing ever is.

Like a lot of people I know say, Harper is a Bush clone.
He was bad news from the start. I think his agenda is to please G.W. so that when he loses the next election he will have a cozy spot somewhere in the Bush Empire.

He changed our mission , Liberals sent them to keep the peace and help rebuild, Harpercrite aka Bush butt kisser went further, now we are paying for that big time, why do you think he wanted to hide the coffins coming home, like Bush does, the families revolted, He stopped the lowering of flags to honor our troops,
So sad to see it

I hate it, especially since my brother is now over there. Everyday we seem to be hearing about Cdn soldiers getting killed over there and everyday I pray it's not my brother's name I hear about!
What the hell are we doing over there? How is this our problem? I know it sounds selfish, but how is their conflict our responsibility? We are not the US who think they need to stick their noses in everyone else's business. We should NOT be there.
Obviously I cannot be objective about this issue when I have a loved one in danger over there.
