Don't bother joining if you are going to think like that.

If you feel that the war isn't right, then you shouldn't join.

If you don't want to be sent to a foreign country, then you shouldn't join.

Once you are in the military, you don't have much choice. You will do what you are told, when you are told, or you will be punished. That punishment can include jail time, and ANY conviction in the military is a federal offense and a felony.

People join the military for a variety of reasons, some of which are the money and college. I remember during Desert Storm there were a lot of people saying, "I didn't join the military to go to war. I joined for the college/money." Well, guess what. When you join the military, you join the whole kit and kaboodle. You will get the money and the college, BUT in time of war, you may be required to go. It's that simple. Nothing in life is free. Your job in the military is that which you were trained to do (medic performs medical duties, infantry performs infantry duties), but your first job is soldier, sailor, airman or marine. That's the facts.

You say that you "wanna join the military", but you "don't want to get sent off to a foreign country...think it is wrong what we are fighting" and you "don't want to fight for something you don't believe is right". You have to make up your mind. Either you want to join the military, or you want the rest. This is a prime example of you can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Sorry, but "them's the facts".

Joining to pay for school is not the right reason to join. If you join out of a sense of duty to serve your country that is a different school.

Part of being in the military is the fact you have little control over your duty station even as a med tech or doc. You may get assigned to a stateside hospital or an Iraqi tent. You have no control of that.

If you don't believe in war as a means of stopping bad guys from killing people across the globe then you aren't cut out for the armed services so don't subject our service men and women who are devoted to that cause with your Alan Alda attitude ..

I think the ROTC program has a lot of merit so it is a good choice... BUT, if you don't have the balls to follow orders, don't join!

Quick story... my reserve unit was activated for OIF-II. One of the guys said "I'll just get out and re-up when you guys get back" (his enlistment was up)... the idiot didn't know the Captain was standing behind him, lol. I've also heard people say "I didn't join the reserves to go to war in Iraq"... makes me SICK! Needless to say those boys were not allowed to re-enlist.

Let me give you a piece of advice. Things are not always as they appear. I do NOT agree with Bush's method in getting us into this war. The plain fact is this... those people over there have been beaten, abused, and murdered at the hands of the Taliban for no reason... just to keep fear in their eyes. This war is NOT about us at this point, it's about saving an abused people. What if your Dad was beating your Mom... would you jump in and stop him or let him beat her?

All Americans care about is the price of their fuel and how much this war is costing us. Not many give a darn about what it's costing the Iraqi people... their lives!!! They need help getting on their feet... if not us, then who? France?

My advice to you would be follow another avenue for college. You don't sound like the military type and appear to want to join JUST to pay for your college.

"It is wrong why we are fighting"... you better thank God you live in the US and don't have to live in those conditions in the middle east... you'd never survive!

The attitude you display in your question would not be welcome in any of the uniformed branches. It would make you a constant source of derision, even assuming you weren't kicked out some point in the process for your uncooperative views.

While others may recommend you do something in the medical branches, your suspect pacifism would eventually just hurt the work performance of yourself and everyone around you. If you can't stand the thought of being deployed, maybe you should reconsider risking a prison sentence and carrying the stigma of failure the rest of your life for slacking where others answered the call.

There is nothing wrong with being a conscientious objector; it's entirely wrong however for one to apply for military service in the hopes of purely financial gain. You're doing yourself and everyone else a disservice with such notions. Get some student loans and work hard for your degree.

I joined the Air Force in hopes to become a pilot in the medical field in1999, the Gulf War was still going on from 1994...I was stationed in Germany and didn't have to fight. It was a great experience and I learned soooo much! I think it'd be a great thing for you to do regardless where you get stationed. You get this "wish list" where you can put down 6 places in the US you'd like to get stationed, but they say if you put one down for overseas, you will get put somewhere overseas. Alaska is considered OS, which is the one I chose, and I got stationed in Germany, so....But the GI Bill is great to help put you through school, plus being in the military, you get on-the-job training, so I think it's the BEST thing you could do.

If you dont' want to "get sent off to a forgien county ...." Then don't join the millitary! Their first duty is to protect the country, and go where they are needed. Education is a benefit.

So you want to free-ride the US Government but you don't want to serve your country? We are in the Iraq war for a while, unfotunantly you would probably be sent there. However when you come home you can go to medical school and you will have training that the military offers. Many great careers but you probably will have to serve your country.

That is a really hard call to make. Medics in the militaary aren't supposed to fight but you never know. I understand your thinking. The Q is are you willing to go against your principles for money? My nephew did but it was for his very ill child. You should exhaust every option before you make a final decision. You are not unlike many young men and women in the military today. God bless all of you.

"i decide to connect the nationwide safeguard than circulate military whilst out of highschool". you could attempt to do this, yet you could no longer even complete your AIT education for the NG on a similar time as you're in extreme college. The NG would have spent distinctive time and money on you and maximum units today are not keen to in basic terms enable you circulate. this is thoroughly up on your chain of command. no longer your self. "I had bronchial asthma whilst i became into 2 or 3 and its thoroughly out of my device, ive never even taken a breath of an inhaler," in case you have had 0 indicators or diagnosis of bronchial asthma in view which you have been a new child. do no longer even point out it. the armed forces won't locate out approximately some thing like that, and in case you DO point out it, you will would desire to get various of waivers pointing out what you already comprehend. With the present downsizing of the armed forces, in simple terms stating a prior background of bronchial asthma ought to probably DQ you, whether you nonetheless are in regs. in basic terms bronchial asthma exceeded the age of 13 is a DQ.
