Sunday schools are private establishments, they can say whatever they want. Public schools are different, since they're funded by public funds, they have the effect of speaking for the government. They therefore need to abide by the not respecting establishment of religion bit in the constitution.

Genesis is religion, despite what the fundies may say, overwhelming scientific evidence points to evolution. That's why politicians shouldn't decide what's taught in public science class, only scientists should decide that.

I'm not sure what alternative viewpoints you mean. Evolution? The purpose of "Sunday School" is to teach the people going to it what their faith (religion) is telling them. Religion isn't allowed to be discussed in regular school so it is taught by the individual churches. I'm certain each religious institution has its own "alternative viewpoints" to what Genesis is telling them but I doubt anyone in Sunday School feels the need to discuss evolution anymore than regular school feels the need to discuss Genesis. Have you ever heard of a regular school teaching Genesis? Most likely not.

I don't know about schools for small children, but I do know Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr. used fiat power to require homosexuality, and homosexuals equal time on the college level. This was allowed, because many private schools recieve Federal funding. The power weilded is the dollar.

I know you're talking about science vs religion, but the principle of fiat applies, wherever the Government wishes. Erosion of rights is not always abvious.

How would someone go about this? "Sunday Schools" are not a government instution (Board of Education, etc.), so there is no regulatory authority to "mandate" what gets taught. Churches can teach anything they want; and if someone tried to force the issue, i.e. lawsuit, it wouldn't go anywhere. You can't mandate religion in this country - remember the Constitution? Freedom of religion?

You can't go against the traditions of Christendom. They only hire people that belong to the church where Sunday school is being taught. I know of someone who taught the truth about Genesis and they were fired. So they left the church of their parents. Now they are learning the truth from the Bible not traditions of men.

I doubt it because in our constitution it says that we find these truths to be self evident, that we were given certain inalienable rights by our CREATOR and then it goes on to say that the government shall make no law regarding the establishment of religion or the practice thereof.

It doesn't say however that when the supreme court decides in 1962, with no previous basis in the law or other precedent from a previous court decision, to bow to the winds of social pressure and misinterpret the constitution that we should remove the concept of God from our public schools.

Obviously our founding fathers who said that our rights come from our Creator would have been in a state of stunned amazement to find that the clause they included in our constitution to protect the rights of people to worship were now being used to deny the truths that they had previously affirmed regarding God and man.

How can you require a private institution to do anything. People have a choice to go to church or not. Maybe you should start your own club and teach altenate viewpoints.

Silly Question!

Sunday Schools are understood as a place of religious teaching.
(Our adult Sunday School does show differing ideas so we can understand the arguments.)

Schools are places where all ideas should be freely discussed and nothing should be banned!
