They have glue on plastic claw covers. They last about six weeks, then you have to do it again. If you don't want to do that, when you walk next to the cat next time, make sure you're carrying a squirt bottle full of water, and when he approaches you, spray him right in the face. He might try it just one more time, then he will be cured. A spray bottle full of water is the most effective way to discipline a cat. Is he young? Male cats do that up to about 14 months. Don't know why. My cat used to sabotage me when I walked down the hall. He would hide behind a door, and then charge! Always my legs. Don't ask me why young male cats do this, unless it's just practice for predators. Incidentally, don't think that he doesn't like you because he does that. He's treating you like he would any cat. They play rough! Good luck.

Definitley a squirt/ spray bottle. This will also help him learn other things like not to spray or pee in the house. Boy Kitties will almost always do this unless you get him fixed young. And the smell will cause you to never be able to have company. No one ever wants to smell that. Don't smack him the face ever you could cause him serious brain damage. If he is still pretty young, put a collar and leash on him and take him outside for a romp. Yes, cats do walk on leashes very well. They don't take walks like dogs, but prefer to roll around on the grass, eat some grass and watch the birds. do not let him chase the birds or anyother animals outside. If you ever get mice inside they are fair game. We had to get our cat front declawed. For no reason she started to attack peoples hands and faces and really split my neighbors hand wide open. She thinks she still has claws and she still catches any mice that try to come in no problem. If he's at the furniture put clear packing tape on the areas he has been at. You can remove alot of the damage with a cheap razor . But the water should work fine,.

Your hubby is right about declawing; it's a serious mutilation, outlawed in some countries because it's so cruel.
You can put Soft Paws on him to keep him from hurting you.
He's just trying to play. Cats play rough. He's one tenth your size and has no idea he can hurt you, and he doesn't intend to hurt you. You can let him know he's hurting you and that you don't like it without smacking him.
You just have to "tell" him in a language he can understand. When he scratches you, look him in the eye, hiss at him, and go into a big act, whimpering and acting like you're mortally wounded. The hiss will tell him he's done something unacceptable and your dying swan act will let him know that he hurt you. He'll catch on.

First, tell him "no" very strongly each time your kitten attacked you. Then find a way to show him it's bad (I got a water spray, and my cat hates water, so it works)
Find a tree cat for your kitten (you can find one in a specilized shop for pets, of make one with wood and an old pair pf jeans or an old sweater of yours)
About his claw, you can cut them, like you cut human nails. But be careful, just cut the end of the claw. If you look at it, you'll see there's a red thing in the claw, it's a vein, don't cut it !
If you're not sure how to do it, bring your kitten to the vet, and ask him to do it, and to show you how to do it for the next time.

He's only being affectionate, my guess is that he's quite young. He just needs to learn to keep his claws in when he plays with you. The scratching post idea is ok, do also walk away from him, or put him in a room where you are not when he does it. This way he learns that if he gets his claws out, he doesn't get to play or (most importantly) get your attention.

It sounds like he is being playful and doesn't realize he is hurting you. A firm smack to the behind along with a verbal "NO" will go a long way to helping. Also, try getting him a toy on a string so he can take out his playfulness without being in range of clawing your legs.

Get a scratching pole and reward him everytime he uses it. And take the cat to the pole, whenever he starts scratching your leg. This way he will learn that it's a good thing to use the pole, instead of your leg!

you can clip their claws. That's what I do. While holding him, take his paw and gently push the claw out. Using regular nail clippers clip the nail at the height of the curve. You can see the quick, becareful not to clip there. Take him to the vet and have them show you how to do it the first time.

As others have reported , a scratching positioned up could desire to be made up of wood of cardboard. Carpet teaches them that different fabric on your place are alright to scratch. do not enable them to play with yarn or string or thread like somebody pronounced, it is ingested and grow to be wrapped up of their intestines and require surgical operation or convey approximately dying. some cats in basic terms clearly desire to bypass everywhere. 2 of my previous 3 cats did, the different did not. as with all puppy , you could desire to assume some injury on your assets, it in basic terms happens. What you're doing with the water bottle could desire to be achieved so as that the kitty does not see you doing it. additionally, never , never, swat or hit your cat in any way. it is going to reason worse habit and final possibly invariably.
