S&M (or S/M) is sadism and masochism. It's an activity that many consenting adults engage in that involves one person (the sadist) inflicting pain on the other (the masochist).
Keep in mind that when I say pain, I mean it in a certain way. The main one is that it creates not permanent harm. However, if done properly, it can stimulate the nerves to signal the brain to produce endorphins. These are neurochemicals that act on the pleasure centres of the brain. It seems paradoxical, but a masochist can actually get pleasure from receiving pain. A sadist gets pleasure from the rush of acting on urges that they have, and as long as both parties agree to this and get something out of it, there's nothing wrong with it.
A masochist isn't into all types of pain. I suspect that most masochists would still cringe at the thought of seeing the dentist. But certain painful sensations are something that masochists crave.

Its a thing where you like pain or being choked or doing the punishing or hair pulling or choking etc. The older I get, the more I am finding that women like that.
