It would seem that the plans where clear enough to allow the work to be done away from the site. Don't you just love it, when all the parts of a puzzle just fall into place so naturally?

It doesn't says it weren't hammers allowed to be heard, it says no hammer was heard. That because all the stone sculpting and etc. were executed in the quarry.
Oh, remember the temple took 7 years to be constructed, can you imagine that? It would be a "paininthebutt" to every single day (or at least most of them) by 7 years hear hammers and all the construction noise...
=P
Solomon had much wisdom.

this passage actually hints to a much more complicated discussion on the nature of the temple and how it was built.
you see many say that the stones of the temple were only to be shaped by G-d himself and should not be carved out by man. This is apposed to the house of the Sanhedrin that sat on the corner of the temple mount that explicitly had to be built with hand carved stones

I guess they were trying not to disturb the rabbi's in prayer with construction noise, how considerate. If they could only be as understanding with their fellow countrymen who do not share their religious beliefs, countless lives need not be lost. Of course the same goes for the other side as well.

This doesn't say that hammers were not ALLOWED. Boy you have some crazy ideas when it comes to interpreting the Bible.

God hates the sound of construction. He only likes the sounds of destruction.
