I think it means that the choices we make, the actions we do, the words we say will tremendously affect our future. "It is our choices that makes our destiny." A lamp unto my feet, I think it kinda shows you the way where to go. and light unto my path, guides you to a good path. A path of success, a path of prosperity and a path of happiness. That's it. I hope it helps in a way...

Because we cannot know the future but can only be aware of our feelings about our immediate life situation we are like a person who is walking on a narrow mountain path in the darkness. We can't know for sure what is the best way to go by relying upon our own instincts or intelligence and we are constantly in danger of tripping over some unseen object or even worse of stepping off the edge of the path and plummeting to our death.
Matthew 7:13 "Enter in through the narrow gate; because wide is the gate, and broad is the way which leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in through it. 14 How narrow the gate, and confined the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it!
But when we make choices based upon the eternal and perfect word of God, it's like having a source of light that illuminates the ground underneath us and our nearby surroundings so that even though we can't see all the way ahead to our destination, we can continue on our journey with confidence that each step we take along the way will result in our feet resting on the solid rock of the narrow pathway and that eventually we will reach our destination in safety.
Matthew 7:24 "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock: 25 and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and fell against that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And its fall was great."

It means if you're going to read the bible walking about in the dark, at least use a lamp to stop yourself bumping in to things. Wasn't god nice to consider the pain of a stubbed toe of his children? On the other hand, if you were clever enough to not read the bible walking about at night you wouldn't have needed such esteemed information and it really doesn't take much intelligence to realise walking about in the dark reading is just asking for trouble.

The lamp signifies a mule who has been stranded up a tree. The path signifies a carrot which is used as bait to draw him down from the tree. Therefore, the translation is... "What you say is like a carrot which is being used to bring a mule down from yonder tree"

Ever tried stumbling around in the dark? That's what we do without the knowledge of the gospel of Christ. It gives us purpose and understanding of why we are here. A lamp allows us to see the way to go and avoid obstacles that cause us grief and pain.

The word is in reference to Jesus Christ in 1 John 1:1 it states that in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. so therefore if we do not walk in the light of Jesus Christ we will be walking in darkness, with out Jesus there is no light in our life.read 1 John and it will give a little more insite to the word.

think about this, if you are walking in the dark you will stumble and fall, so the word of God lights the way for you to stay on a good path.
