Like the very recent question about being forced to convert to Islam if you marry a Muslim.

And that gosh awful question that gets repeated concerning Mohammad and the 9 yr. old girl. this girl's father offered his daughter in marriage when she was 9, but the marriage did not happen until the girl was physically a woman - years later. No pedophilia occurring there.

Because if they can make up lies and get other idiots to believe them, then everyone feels better about having someone to focus they hate on again. If people went around learning about everything, peoples culture, religions, way of life, then how would people create a state of fear in the world.
Islam is picked on because it, like most religions, is full of holes to the untrained eye (and being an atheist i disagree with the whole thing, but i still enjoy learning what its really about).

People believe what they are told... they have no drive to actually research the religion themselves. People tell lies about Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Taoists, etc. It extends to every religion.

I have A LOT of friends who are Muslim and they have misconception about Christianity (I'm not Christian, btw). I have to say that I have noticed more and more people actually becoming interested in Islam. Before the war we, as a country, knew absolutely nothing about Islam. Now, all the press coverage (even though it is mostly negative) is bringing attention to the religion. While some will believe everything that is put on the news or spouted from their religious leaders mouths (the brain washed sheep), others will take it upon themselves to find out if they are telling the whole story. I know of 2 people in the last month who converted because they were curious and after researching, decided that it was the religion for them.

People tell lies about Islam because they are prejudiced and afraid of the unknown and instead of opening their hearts for it and show some interest to find out more about Islam they follow the wrong and prejudiced opinions that are based on nothing but lies of others and they don't even think or take responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
It has been like this all over in history on different matters what people do not know about they reject instead of learning and finding out more about it. People hear or see something that they do not know about and do not understand and there's one that makes an opinion about it and others follow it without investigating it. I have been dealing with this all my life being of a different culture and religion I'm faced with prejudice on regular bases.

There is enough wrong with Islam a person should not have to lie about it, as some do. In regard to the person who asked about being forced to become Muslim if married to a Muslim - THAT to me is a sincere question from someone trying to see if it is true.

If a person does not ask, then he or she does not get answers. Its not always a matter of making up a lie, but trying to figure out if what they were told was a lie. Understand?

Sister, there is no point of explaining here, their rules change from time to time and so does they supposed "word of God" of their's.
Even right here in USA, the legal age to marry someone in 1800s was 10, let alone what was the age to marry someone in Arabia 1400 years ago.
Sometimes when people run out of questions about something they don't like and still can't prove it wrong, they take a wrong path of accusing it with the false claim.
I will say no need to waste your time explaining something they already know very well.

More lies about islam. Who is making up the lies?

I think it is you who is making up stories.

I was born into a hindu family. I was abducted by my ex husband who i have left, thank god, and locked up inside a house.

I was told to recite something in arabic in the presence of a priest. I had never heard arabic before in my life. I was taken there in a hejab so no one would know who i was.

I became a muslim and was promised heaven.

I was then forced, beaten with a belt, raped over and over agan and the family called me barren (unable to have children, infertile) because i was not producing children as I was going to work to feed 8 mouths.

I was never told he was married with children. It was not enough. We had to have more mouths to feed.

If it was love, how come we did not have a civil kind of marriage with both families present? Why did he abduct me?

As far as Ayesha's story goes, get your facts straight.

First of all, what kind of father offers his 6 year old child to a man in his fifties?

Then the prophet of islam, the man who is supposed to be a living example to his people, marries her at 9 and takes her to bed? He must have been in his late fifties?

Can you do that to your daughter? Is that not rape? It is a known fact and you cannot hide behind these false words.

That is why there is no mention of rape in islamic jurisprudence.

The prophet is a living example of your religion.

People make up lies because they don't understand the culture. One of the biggest problems we have as people is making assumptions about things we do not fully understand, this is due in part to plain laziness(no one takes the time to research these things properly), and in-ability to admit ignorance(PRIDE). Islam in particular is obviously going to get the extreme side of this due to this situation going on around the world. Though these prejudices are do to the view of Islams actions(or certain factions of Islam), and American PRIDE.

I don't necessarily like all of the insulting questions and ugly assumptions made towards Christianity either, but I'd rather have them ask, and have the chance to respond with the truth, than for them to continue to spread falsehoods or to believe the lies that are perpetuated. If even one person stops spreading the ugliness it would be worth it.

Unfortunately, the people asking are probably not the ones making up the lies - Islamophobic slander is rampant and gets repeated all over the place. Y!A is just one of many examples...

Most of what is out there though does say that Muhammad did consumate the marriage when Aisha was 9, though they actually married when she was all of 6.
