A bark is usually a warning or a sign of anxiety. Notice who your dog is barking at. My dog always barked at anyone with glasses or a uniform. The glasses had reflections and it gave him some anxiety to not be able to see the person's face. If someone had a uniform on, he would also bark, especially at our meter reader, who was also afraid of dogs, I think they bark at those people that have some fear as well, as another form of warning.
To make him stop, I would ask the person to acknowledge him by his name.

I had a dog that always barked at two people whenever he saw them. One was the paperboy and one was my uncle. We found out later on the paperboy had been responsible for some thefts in the neighborhood, and my uncle was a thief, too. When we weren't home, he'd break into the yard and take my father's tools. He did a lot of bad things.
So your dog is probably trying to tell you that the people he's barking at are bad eggs.

My dogs have issues with people with aggressive natures. I think its the fact they want to be dominant and certain people threaten that. Mine will love all over the kids across the street but when their cousins come over and they are all out side running and screaming mine get upset and start barking out the door. I have one that is a herder and he barks the worse when he thinks the kids are out of control

Dogs (mostly) bark only at strangers (or other people they think they should "fear"), or at people who "ran away" last time the dog barked at them. This is why almost all dogs will bark at the postman/postwoman. Last time they did it, it worked, and the postal worker left!
Part of what makes dogs happiest is consistency. Like some of the simpler folks I know! LOL

dogs really see the persons appearance.. if u look well dressed then it wont bark.. if u be nice to the dog it wont bark..

your dog barks at ceartian because he/she knows if they will hurt you or he/she hasnt met them or he/she dosent like that person.

theyre barking at them because a) they really really like them or b) they really really dont like them.
