Go ahead and have a housewarming party and then have someone annouce that it is your birthday. Then bring out the cake and ice cream and let everyone sing. A spanking might be in order.
If anyone asks, say you didn't want to tell everybody, because you didn't want them to think you expected 2 gifts. And that you didn't because you wanted their presence, not presents.
You want 2 gifts=2 parties and separate them by at least a few days, so your friends can give 2 nice presents and want to come 2 times to your place. They better be good parties.
Do not register for birthday presents. That is unbearably tacky. It is right up there with saying, "You don't have to come, just send money."

Throw the housewarming party. At some point in the party have your very best friend out of the bunch announce that it's your birthday, then do the cake thing and open champagne.

It's okay to throw a party for two events. It's a little tacky to expect gifts. And registering is definately expecting gifts.

Two parties but expect one gift. Do not think that you are going to get gifts for both your home and yourself. And if you throw them on different days you are going to be spending more money to get the same amount of gifts that you would get for having them on the same day. So just have on party and work with what you get.

Dress up as hula people and play the ukulele and drums. And serve drinks in coconuts with straws. And have a pinata that looks like a pineapple and be tickets to a flight to Hawaii inside! And a hula contest. And Hawaiian music on. The cake should be a pineapple upside-down cake! There should be a pool there, too, to swim in if it is during the warm season. Streamers! Coconut drinks and Hawaiian Punch! Salmon and Craw fish! Tickets to Hawaii! Hawaii here I come, let's continue the party!

It is perfectly acceptable to have one party. However, how old are you? You cannot expect people to buy you two gifts, that is very tacky and the fact that you registered for your birthday is very tacky.

It is absolutely OK to combine two parties but it is rude to expect two different gifts.

It's okay to mix two different occasions for one party,
but make it clear to everyone you invite that
you don't expect more than one gift.
