the person cannot talk and he is paralazed and is currently receiving treatment in the nursing home. He can recognise and he is not in comma.

how much of his brain is left from the stroke? What did the MRI show? Listen to the neurologist, that's there job. Each person is case by case. How long has it been after the stroke. The longer it is, the less likelihood of a recovery.

A lot depends on the severity of the stroke... how much of the brain was damaged. i have seen recoveries, but they are long and slow at best... some never make it back to their original condition. The fact that he can recognise faces is a plus... be patient!

who knows what the brain is capable of? Doctors and scientists really haven't even touched the tip of it's possibilities ......

I recently read an article about a man who was in a coma for a long time.....and woke up and started talking.....

That really just depends how serious the stroke was. Since you say he is paralyzed, I would leans towards the negative.

Sometimes its is very rare that a person recovers completely from this but it will get better. With prayer, strength, hope, and faith they can recovers. in lords name pray because with Him miracles are possible.
