From Ayr take the A77 north to Glasgow (it becomes the M77) from where you have two options. Either the A9 and up the east side of Scotland or the A82 and up the west side of Scotland. The A9 is the quicker option but the A82 offers a far nicer journey (in my opinion).

If you go for the A9 option then take the M77 to the M8 and head east towards Edinburgh, come off at junction 13 and follow the M80 and A80 towards Stirling, this will bring you to the M9, follow the M9 north (signed Perth and Inverness), the M9 becomes the A9 at Dunblane, just keep on the A9 right up to Inverness. Stay with the A9 for about 40 miles beyond Inverness and you'll come to Dornoch (about 2 miles off the A9 and clearly signposted).

If you go for the A82 option, which is definitely the one I'd recommend due to the stunning scenery, then take the A77/M77 from Ayr to the M8 in Glasgow then join the M8 heading west (signed Erskine Bridge and Greenock). Take the Erskine Bridge (M898) and a 60p toll. This brings you to the A82 north of Glasgow and basically from here it's a case of following the A82 all the way to Inverness. At Inverness join the A9 and follow it north to Dornoch.

The A82 can get very busy at popular times and there's one short section alongside Loch Lomond where there's only a single lane and traffic is controlled by traffic lights - large queues can build up here.

As you come into Tarbet (alongside Loch Lomond) you need to be a bit careful because the A82 turns off to the right - if you go straight on you'll end up on the A83 heading towards Inveraray and eventually the Mull of Kintyre.

For me the best part of the A82 route is crossing Rannoch Moor and then dropping down into Glen Coe. All along the A82 route there are loads of interesting places to stop off at and stunning scenery to admire.

Hope this helps.

hi Gary, I heavily think of that each and one and all investment must be decrease. we are way too plenty human beings on the planet. perhaps money for the defense force must be extraordinarily raised. From governmental facet there must be plenty greater clever complots to establish communities against one yet another, and those communities ought to have much less complicated get right of entry to to weapons, by way of fact the subject is relatively pressing, no placebos will help right here to make the susceptible think of themselves lifeless. Or are we only going to attend until eventually nature will ascertain the subject. Why no longer only help evolution a hand and be the creation of the chaos which will are available in besides? in case you have the objective to report me, for regardless of reason, think of roughly what an asshole you're, different than for being spiritually retarded. approximately your remark to Thomas : be careful of what you replica/paste. Thomas is punctiliously real in his remark approximately deif. He shows great mind. only your reactions in direction of his contributions teach, yet all over lower back, your non secular retardation. Gary, whilst are you eventually advance up, you and your little peer reviewed and double blindly controlled nincompoops? you are the clever ones, as you declare. you need to provide the superb occasion. it incredibly is termed real management. i'm hoping your next contributions teach you're on the superb way, or I take you to Vietnam and placed my knife real the place you like it. good success.
