Partner No. 3 wants to renew our vows, which as I recall were made one drunken night in Corfu when he said "If you ever leave me for another man, I'll kill him and then I'll kill you". I have suggested a civil wedding with different vows but he says it's Corfu or nothing.

And you are considering this???????????

Don't worry too much about the threat!! I've said it myself after a few drinks, most men I know have said it. It doesn't mean they will actually do it (all you naive little girls out there)

Not the best vows granted but if Corfu is somewhere you both remember and cherish, go for it!

p.s. tho I find the whole vow renewal very american and tacky IMHO.

"Corfu or nothing" - sounds like a threat.

Do your conversations always end with such an unflinching ultimatum?

If yes, take a step back, a long deeeeep breath and see what the situation is like without the beer goggles.

When compromise isn't even on the agenda, it's hard for any relationship to survive.

A good relationship isn't about settling. It's about working towards things together and having an equal partnership, where both people's views are respected adn both people are happy with what is decided. Love, not jealousy, rules it. Compromise is essential sometimes, but doesn't leave either partner feeling like they're doing something that they don't want to do.

Does your partner understand that, because to be honest from the way you've described him he sounds more like a bully who wants his way or nothing. You need to decide whether you'll tolerate that.

corfu or nothing is not the way forward if he is like this dictating to you and giving you no choice now what will he be like when he has got his own way with nothing said from you? seriously think about this, what do you want? remember the saying if you are going to ly there like a door mat someone will wipe there feet on you

ARE YOU FOR REAL???

Are you really going to renew vows with a dick head who says he'll kill you if you ever leave him for another man??

Please tell me why you're with him? He showers you with love everyday, he calls you to let you know how much he loves you, he compliments you on your appearance or the meal you've just cooked him? NO, Then WHY ARE YOU STILL THERE??

Sorry, I've had it with us girls putting up with second best for fear of being alone!! I've ditched all dirt bags and am holding out for one that's going to treat me right, yeah it might take a little longer than normal seeing as I've got 3 kids and over 34yrs but hey, I wasn't put on this earth to be treated like **** and neither were YOU!!

I hope you are seriously listening to what everyone else here has said. Get away while you can and make sure you have backup. This guy sounds scary and he seems to jump to conclusions far to easily so you leaving may make him think there is someone else even if there isn't. Make sure you have a friend there who can help you out if it is needed. My best friend was in an abusive relationship and has had to change her phone number more times than I can count due to her soon to be ex-husband.

well make a compromise. go to Corfu, but then if you give him what he wants he has to give you a proper ceremony. also make sure he doesn't write his own vows this time!

If you are asking questions like this your in doubt, and doubt means don't. If hes already talking like this pre-marriage image what he would be like post-marriage. Marriage is only meant to happen once don't you think you deserve the best I mean shouldn't you at least get a say in where you'd like it to be. To be honest no-one can tell you what to do, as Im sure you will fine the answer to your question within, and if you've asked this question I think you have just answered yourself.
