Hi Ahmed,

My name is Erik. I'm a white American dude, but I was actually born and raised a Muslim.

I am not a Muslim anymore, however, I can't say that I have completely rejected it yet. I'm still sitting on the fence.

As for your question, I do think that it is both your freedom as a human being and a divine right that God has given us. I am aware that in many Muslim societies that Muslims are killed for leaving Islam, but that is a problem with that society, not Islam. The Quran does not say that you should kill someone for leaving Islam. I can't remember the exact surahs, but I remember from childhood that the Quran states: "There is no compulsion of religion." That clearly states that Muslims are not allowed to force others to convert or stay with Islam. There is also a story about the prophet Muhammad where some of his followers wanted to kill some Arabs that had converted to Islam before just to fool the Muslims to make them look bad, and then after wards reverted back to their former beliefs. The prophet Muhammad told his followers to allow them to live. If the Prophet Muhammad forgave apostasy, then surely all Muslims in the world should have the same opinion as their beloved prophet.

Good luck with your spiritual path. For me it is really hard to, I just don't know what to believe; but I never give up, I keep thinking and searching.

There seems to be a world of difference between what sacred writings say on the subject (both those of Islam and other religions) and the experience of being human. Sacred writings like the Koran, Bible and Torah suggest that the individual needs to maintain loyalty to their God (and through that their religion). However, in the experience of being human, we often find that we really need to follow what is in our hearts, and a particular religious dogma may not fulfill our hearts the way leading a spiritual life without the religious strictures can. In the end, I truly believe it is an individual decision and not one that can be dictated.

Yes just as anyone should have the right to embrace what religion one finds true and wishes to follow.Unfortunately the world and the powers that be do not always agree.

Definately! You have the right to choose!
As far as practising your religion, no matter how much you pretend to believe, if you do not truely believe in your heart, then you simply do not and have therefore already made your decision.

you have that right indeed. but I think that right of "divine" falls more into the "free will" category and not human right.

Not a "divine" right, but a human right, yes, absolutely.

Certainly.

Like weemaryanne, I don't like the word 'divine' there,

but believe what you will.

That's what free will is about, the ability to make our own decisions.

I usually avoid confrontation with muslims as I have been tortured in Islam since I was six years old. I am now in my fifties and it is getting worse when I see statements like these. But I feel I should say what i have experienced and tell people what muslims are doing.

First muslims came into our lives, raped us, stole our country, murdered our people and forced us to believe that their religion is the only religion that is true. All others are kaffirs.

They did not care how many people they hurt or killed.

Now things are coming to a head in the world as to their atrocities towards others and they start talking about rights?

Whose rights? Theirs again?

I went to a hindu function yesterday where i saw a stage show where a muslim decides he is going to become a hindu now.

Once again someone is forcing themselves on us.

It is about rights? Whose rights? What about other people's rights?

I do not want murderers, rapists and thieves in my temple. I do not want human rights violaters in my temple. So why do muslims think that they can do what ever they want and it is ok?

First you force us to belive in you and destroy our lives.

Now you decide that you do not want to be muslim and force us to accept you again.

Then you come into my religion and my life and force me to accept you again? Why?

Do we not have rights?

All muslims should go to Mecca and Medina, adopt a life of piety and poverty and repent for their sins on human kind.

All muslims should eat garbage because they have forced others to eat their garbage.

All muslims should make strict decisions not to violate anyone else's rights anymore in the world. That is human rights.

It is when each and every muslim will understand the kind of human rights violations they impose on others, and repent in Mecca and Medina, that anything can happen that is in anyway equal to human rights.

If you do not want to be muslims, stop having children and your religion will stop. You cannot force your views on us.

You decide you do not want to be a muslim. That is I guess your right. But what about the criminal activities of muslims? If you would not have others, there was another way out of this. But you have hurt everyone who is not a muslim and now expect the wounded, to accept you into their lives with open arms?

When are you going to be punished for that or is this a cunning way, like before, to get out of being punished?

Do you know the world JUSTICE? I have not seen this word anywhere in the same context as a muslim or islam.

You have ruined my country and my religion and tradition. The only way we can fix the damage done is by you muslims moving out of our home and our lives. Do you understand that?

Muslims are criminals and I cannot afford to live with them in my home. I cannot afford child abusers to be part of my life. But you muslims do not want to do anything. You just carry on as though nothing has happened and shove your money under the noses of the poor. Is that not a human rights violation to use cunning and underhand ways to take attention away from your criminal activities?

You cannot just wake up one morning and say ok i am not a muslim anymore and so i am going to go about my business as though nothing has happened.

Muslims are child sexual abusers, rapists, murderers and thieves. They have to take stock of that first. Then they have to get out of our lives, not force themselves into ours.

If you have come to realise some things in life especially freedom, you have to realise the same for others and cannot force others to accept whatever you decide.

Do you think that is right? Is that not a human rights violation?

Get out of our homes and our lives and let us fix ourselves please. You have hurt people and they have the right to make their lives better.

Only then can you free yourself from anything

I would suggest, pack your bags and go to Mecca or Medina and live a life of seeking forgiveness for your criminal activities and let other people have their rights.

It is always about your rights, isn't it? FORCE FORCE AND MORE FORCE.

What about other people's rights?

We deserve to have our rights too but you have killed our voices with your force. We cannot even speak because of your torture of 1000 years or more.

Take stock of what I have said and give our rights back to us. Do not come into our lives and our temples.

Freedom. If you think you are free, then free us of your oppression first.
