The personality of the sun conure can best be described as inquisitive and playful. They are active, spunky and curious, and love to play with a multitude of toys. Their antics during play-time are comical, and they are quite entertaining to watch as they jump, swing, and generally have a wonderful time, seeming to proclaim to the world that they are happy to be alive! Sun conures love attention, and like to be handled and cuddled by their owners, but many tend to be cautious and reserved with strangers. One trait I have seen in several companion sun conures (including my own two) is the willingness to lean back into their owner's chest while sitting on the owner's hand or arm. Both of our sun conures love to do this, and both will also lie very still on their backs in the palms of our hands, turning their heads to and fro so that we can reach exactly the spots on their necks that they want to have scratched!

Sun Conure Description
Physical Description
The suns are a beautiful red/orange/yellow over most of the bird. The wings have a slight green on the wings. The younger birds are more green, and their brighter colors appear after several molts. As with all conures, the Sun has the white skin patch around the eye. Average weight of 100g-120g

Length
12 Inches

Ave. Lifespan

Sexing
Undeterminable by appearance. However, you can take a guess by looking at the shape of the bird's head. Females have a rounder and smaller head than the male. The male's head is squarer, with a flatter forehead.

Origin:
North western Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela.

Trainability
The Suns are very playful and entertaining birds, and can be trained easily. Many breeders find the Sun to have a great playful personality.

Loudness
The Suns are known as loud birds. The bird has a very loud scream. And if not trained properly, the bird will be loud often. Sun owners say it is possible to train the birds to be more quiet.

Pricing
$300-400

Conures are cute, loveable, & very pretty.
Get a larger cage than you think, & lots of toys.
If you have never had a bird, start with something cheaper.
Research on google about the care & feeding & housing of birds.
Find a hand tamed bird, get & KEEP the bird's wings clipped. Seeing them fly about is cute, but they can just as easily fly out a door or window. Once there, it is *very* difficult to get one back.

Conures are LOUD! If you are in an apartment, try for a Senegal parot. They whistle more than scream & can talk. I am not sure a Sun really can talk.
