Do you respect your Sergeant Majors more than officers? & why?

I certainley did. Because they seem to care more about the troops they are looking out for and dont hesitate to get the feet wet.

These are my reasons anyone have any differant reasons?

Officers!!, please feel free to pitch in with your point of view also.

I respect my SNCO's much more than the Zobs/Officers, as I know that my Flt Sgt etc has been in my shoes and that he's done what I'm doing. Most Zobs don't have a clue. The other day I got a phone call from a Flt Lt who wanted to speak to my Sgt. He wasn't in, so I asked if I could help. All she wanted was a phone number for a civvy in Aerospace, but She Wouldn't ask an SAC (Lance Jack) as that's too low a rank. That loses my respect instantly.

Hey, Quinn and Riley's mum, Techies are OK, I'm one. Most of us work hard for promotion. I've known a few who get easy promotions, but the majority of us earn them the hard way.

That's what REALLY irritates me, Non-Techies who hate us simply because we earn more than them. Everyone's valuable, and just because we do a technical job, and earn a higher wage, other trades resent us. We don't dislike other trades, but they seem to dislike us (I've been on the receiving end of this in the office formerly known as PSF. They saw me as scum as soon as I walked in, and all I wanted was a signing-on extension form)

Generally with a few exceptions Officers are a pain in the a**, Those with enough common sense to pay attention to their NCO's fare better and garner the troops respect, Know it alls get fragged or sabotaged until they are reassigned.

In my day there was an OCS ( Officer Candidate School ) where NCO's could become comissioned officers, I would fight in hell with gasoline drawers on for any of the OCS officers I ever encountered, they put their troops first not their careers and they tended to lead by example.

I defo respect sgt maj`s more than officers, simply because a sgt may has worked his way up thru the ranks. Officers start there career in a very powerful role ie commanding man, and rank. The officers has no experience and most of the time not a clue whats going on!

The thing is that Officers and SNCOs have different roles. SNCOs are involved with the running of the unit on the ground whereas Officers take care of the background higher level organisation. It isn't that Officers don't care it's that they have a different job to do. When you think of it like this you will see that the unit won't function well without either of them.

Sergeant Majors earned their stripes and started from Private whereas Officers come straight in from officer training with no practical experience

Being Air Force I never experience that type of intimidation management that I understand other services experience. Your Senior NCO's had more experience than the young officers and direct management responsibility, so it would appear that they cared more about the troops. All ranks care about the front line folks.

Yes definatly because they have lived our lives before they got to where they are, Officers aren't bad people but most of them have had very different lives to most soldiers.

I generally think Staff/Colour and above are worth more than any officers these are the real charecters. They shape the troops.

ooooooh i hate techies too. getting their stripes from a cornflake box. i prefered to take orders from the people who earned their rank. i hated officers, especially the useless cow who was co. of my basic training. she had no idea when it came to the passing out parade, and she didn't even bother turning up on the passing off parade. ( she looked ridiculous with her sword. hahahahaha)
i was in the R.SIGs
my dad left the REME after 22 years, as a WOII. everyone respected him.
