i have done my best but things are not working between us. i dont want to run away from responsibilities but i dont know how to go ahead...

I agree with avid, my mother inlaw only calls when she needs money and she is constantly talking to my other sisters in law about what a B**ch I am, which is interesting since I stay away as much as possible. I spend time with her when I have to , because I won't deny my own children their grandmother, and I make a point of not talking bad about her to any of the other family. Upside.. my husband is finally "seeing" the way she treats me and is taking my side and backing me up, of course it only took 16 years of marrage!! LOL, Hang in there, she will die eventually.

Only spend time with her when you have to. Be civil when you do spend time with her. Keep conversations "neutral" - do not talk about your marriage or other personal issues with her.

MOVE OUT, get as far as you can it will only get worse.
