Seems to me that prostitutes provide a good service. No emotional hangups, sex when and how you want it, no kids. Wish I could find an ex-prostitute to live with permanently. Why does society condemn this?

well, illegal - depends on what country you're in. In Germany, not only is it legal, but the girls pay tax and health insurance too. It's a regular job there.

nice one Angela, However, that would be illegal - called living off immoral earnings. I just prefer the idea of living with an ex-prostitute 'cos she probably wouldn't be shocked by anything and, she's more likely to be honest.

note for meggs P - no, it wouldn't worry me at all - if that was HER choice. I agree about the issues of forced prostitution. What do most girls do anyway? They expect food, drink, jewellery, presents. and what does the man get..... It's also a form of prostitution, thinly disguised. Let's all be honest about it.

Does it really matter what other people think about prostitution?

If you want a prostitute to stay with you for a few weeks, months, or years, and you can come up with the cash then she can be all yours.

In my opinion, i have seen a lot of drug usage among prostitutes, it doesnt mean all prostitutes take drugs but a majority do and/or will end up on drugs due to the nature of the work and environment.

Prostitution appears to be the womans alternative to male crimes such as bank robbing, theft, murder. But i am sure the world is a better and happier place with prostitutes. I also find some prostitutes are quite sexy.

Most of the answers seem to focus on the fact that prostitutes are just female - they are not.

The actual transaction is as old as the hills. One person wants something the other has and is willing to pay for it - the other is willing to sell it.

The reason people get upset is that a number (I dont mean the majority but that there is a significant number) of prostitutes are forced into it by either circumstances or other people.

There is nothing wrong imo about a person voluntarily entering prostitution but when a person has no other option - eg the threat of bodily harm to them or their family then it is plain wrong.

Probably also worth pointing out that prostitution is not upsetting in certain cultures in fact it is an honoured profession.

That is one of the best questions I have ever read on here.

Indeed, there is absolutley nothing at all wrong with prostitution; the guy gets what he wants (sex), the girl gets what she wants (money) and as long as they practice safe sex, nobody gets hurt and everyone's happy.

I think the problems crop up when society tries to impose their morals and values upon others, as if we would want to live their crappy dull lives.

Unfortunately, the "moral majority" comprise most of the legal system, including those that are involved in making our laws.

This is one of the reasons why I am (and always will be) punk; I have no faith or trust in the people that govern this land.

You are contradicting yourself there... as an EX-prostitute is not a prostitute no longer either.

Well, if you are after emotionless sex, yes prostitutes are the go... Just book yourself in for your weekly fun. Of course it cost money... but that's nothing compared to having a girlfriend who you have to take out for dinners etc. I think the problem you will encounter is, that you will start caring for this person after a while... and you don't want her to have sex with other customers no more... and that would be unfair.

Try to find someone who is after the same things in life as you are. There are heaps of dating & sex sites where you can find a sex partner without the emotional connection...

Good luck!!!

Because people still view sex as something dirty? Ironically enough, countries with legalized prostitution have lower rates of sex crimes then those without. Besides prostitution is everywhere anyway, the government might as well make it legal so they could at least regulate it so it's not as dangerous (I.E. regular drug testing, etc.)

My personal objection is that it's not hygienic, for obvious reasons. Also, from the women's point of view, it's a job that requires a lot of limitations imposed on oneself (meaning, the woman has to curb her emotional needs!), and sometimes kids do happen and make things more difficult.

Society has the right to condemn any sexual contacts in cannot regulate, that's one of its purposes, you know.

Because it is degrading to women. Unless the women enjoyed sex with complete strangers, no matter how they looked or behaved, in which case, I have no problems with it.
It's like cleaning someone's toilet (which I have done) - a dirty job.

because prostitutes undermine the financial aspirations of regular women - converting female sexuality into money
