We have such incredible scientific knowledge but we're still killing each other like barbarians. Why hasn't our spirituality kept up?

Seagoat,

Much of what we think is going on in the world, is only a reflection of what is selected to appear in the various media. If our only source of information, is what we see on TV, hear on the radio, and read in the newspapers, we are indeed, misguided as to what is going on in the world. We are indeed evolving, and so is our understanding of God, and reality. It just doesn't make very good press! Throughout our history, God has amended the nature of what we call religion, to fit the size of our understanding, and imagination. If you study the history of religion, you will see it. Because our technology has improved so much in the last century, it seems that religious beliefs have not progressed much in comparison. I can assure you, that a quiet revolution is taking place within the realm of spiritual understanding. There is a vanguard of individuals, who have broken through the ice of religious ignorance and tradition. They have gone where few have been before, but where all the potential Children of God, must eventually go. We are beginning to see, that denominations, and churches, and the doctrines and traditions of men, fall far short of God's expectations. While they have served the purpose of painting a vague and fuzzy picture of Truth, their time is coming to a close as we speak. We will have to endure one more world wide conflagration, due to religious ignorance, but after that, the way will be clear. We are on the brink of the greatest spiritual change of paradigm since Jesus walked the earth. He came to bring a life changing message to mankind. Unfortunately, it has been largely lost in the confusion of man made religions. It is a message, both simple, and elegant. "The Kingdom of God, is within you". When we come to God, as humble children, and invite Him into our lives, He sends His Spirit into us, and bonds with us. We become new creatures, part mortal, part Immortal. The old values of materialism and fear, fall away. Love and Wisdom, become the foundation of all our choices. We have embarked on the Path of Eternity, and we will never be the same again. This is the ultimate truth of religion. It is the simple formula, that reveals our place, and destiny in the universe. In time, religion will be remembered as the "training wheels" of our race, as we enter into the next phase of our true evolution.

Someone once said that civilised society is only three square meals away from anarchy (or words to that effect) - i.e. despite our advanced scientific knowledge and comfortable high-tech society, we're still basically the same peope underneath, with the same human nature as we've always had. Hence there will probably always be people prepared to kill given the right triggers. The thing to do is to look at it dispassionately and rationally, and ask what kind of circumstances tend to lead to the barbaric behaviour you cite - e.g. deprived upbringing, radical religious beliefs, persecution, or whatever, and try to eliminate those triggers from the world.

I think you will find that so-called spirituality is the reason people are killing each other like barbarians. The first sign a species is becoming sentient is when they have evolved
to the point where they can abstract enough to invent a god. The first sign a species is achieving sentient maturity is when they get rid of their gods. It is not time to "evolve" spiritually, it is time to "Delete" spirituality.

Humans are pompous, arrogant and power hungry, and refuse to except that we have a creator. In time scientist will find out the truth about life as we know it, and write what will not be known as theory but the absolute truth. That life and all the Universe is to delicate to exist with out God.

Actually it has. You'd be surprised how many changes religion has gone through in the last thousands of years. The advances in theory have gone so far though it may not seem much.

Because while science deals with the head, religion deals with the heart. Change the head, and the heart is unaffected.

I think the other answers have indirectly given your answer. So many people are stuck in their outdated religions they refuse to let it change.
