The trouble is, I've been buying him the same old 'grandad gifts' for years. He has much more money than me (I'm limited to about £20). He has anything and everything he could ever want. I should mention it's his 80th, so I can't take him for any thrilling experiences or anything and he doesn't really have any hobbies. I even asked my parents and Grandma, and they're pretty much as stumped as I am. My wife is pregnant with his first great-grandchild, but I already gave them scan-photo's and can't think of anything to do with that which wouldn't seem conceited. Please help me find an original idea, I've paid this a lot of though already and eliminated all obvious options. I only have until this weekend to get something. Thanks in advance!

I don't know where your grandfather lives, but a small birdhouse and birdseed could be nice. (For some reason, all the older people I know love them... maybe they have more time to look out the window, eh?)
Good luck. Grandpas with no hobbies (and there are many!!) are tough.

Well, I did think a telescope but for £20 you might be a bit pushed!! Old people seem to like astronomy though.
My grandad liked those matchstick sets. You know, where you make an aeroplane (or whatever) out of 5000 matchsticks. He was very good at them!
Or a nice bottle of brandy? At his age, people often feel as if the younger generation don't want to know them any more. Maybe you could just take him to the pub and have a good old chinwag??
Good luck!

Grandparents are impossible to buy for.
It was my grandad's 90th last year and someone bought him a book called 'how to write you're life story' with a really nice writing book and pen.
Someone else got him a book about tracing your family tree.
Failing that take him out for a nice meal or make a collage of family photos in a nice frame.

I can't think exactly what they are called but it is a photo tree. Obviously shaped like a tree with branches with little discs that you insert photos into. Maybe you have old photos of your parents when young. Photos of yourself with him when you were young. And now his first grandchild. I think some of these items hold about 10 miniture photos. Look in home shopping catalogues. Good Luck

What do you give someone who has everything: one suggestion for your grandfather 80th birthday gift idea is something that makes him feel good inside him-self.
My suggestion is sponsoring an abandoned or abused animal at the National Animal Welfare Trust. You can go on-line to sponsor an animal in your grandfathers name. For your money your grandfather would get photographs of the sponsored animal. Your grandfather may visit the sponsored animal as ofter as he wishes. The sponsorship starts from £12.00 per year for smaller animal's going upwards to £40.00 for a horse or pony. You can sponsor a dog or cat for about £20.00 per year.
My mum is 81 years young in December she think this is a good idea as well you can go to the Webb page below to consider.

A lot of major newspapers have the facility for you to purchase a copy of the edition that was printed in his birth year. Ring them to ask.Or a blank piece of paper honouring what he would REALLY like to do perhaps with you, like a meal, a walk in the country, a train ride to his favourite place etc.A promissory note that you would honour....

Why don't you make him a family tree?
Either that or get your wife to give him his first great-grandchild on his birthday.

You can try making him something. The thing is...simple things always make people happy. I don't think he needs something big and expensive for his birthday. :)
