Hitler was raised a Roman Catholic. He never renounced Christianity, but as an adult, he does not appear to have been a practicing Catholic. However, the world would have been a much better place had he actually practiced Christianity. (addendum: In My Opinion)

"In public statements, Hitler frequently spoke positively about the Christian heritage of German culture and his belief in Christ. In doing so, he used his "ability to simulate, even to potentially critical Church leaders, an image of a leader keen to uphold and protect Christianity.", according to Ian Kershaw. [4] For example, on March 23, 1933, he addressed the Reichstag: "The National Government regards the two Christian confessions (i.e. Catholicism and Protestantism) as factors essential to the soul of the German people. ... We hold the spiritual forces of Christianity to be indispensable elements in the moral uplift of the German people."[5] At one point he described his religious status: "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so."[6] Hitler never ended his church membership, but according to Albert Speer, "he had no real attachment to it."[7]"

Sounds to me like he deceived the church and the Christian community in Germany, and used the cloak of Christianity for un-Christian purposes, but I am not the Ultimate Arbiter. It isn't that unusual for individuals to pervert religion for their own nefarious ends. See the middle east.

CLARIFICATION: The citation I list states that Hitler declined confirmation when the Bishop offered it, and that he did not participate in the Sacraments of Catholicism as an Adult.

He may have claimed to follow Christ (although whether it was the Christ of the Bible is HIGHLY debatable). Hitler and the SS were both avid followers of certain "occult" practices and activities as well as occult artifacts which they felt held mystical powers to change the course of the war. So according to the Christian belief he would be an athiest.

He may have changed his religious views when he became an adult. And, by the way, it's ALTAR, not ALTER.
