Interesting the word 'Fear' has changed meaning since it was first used. The word 'Fear' when used in the statement 'In fear of God' does not mean what we understand it to mean it actually mean't with respect.

I fear your beard, and fear that it may be used as a lethal weapon. However, I do not believe this fear proves my status as a sinner, and would prefer to believe that, should there be a Jesus, or a God anywhere, that they would just love everyone, and not consistantly wish to damn others, like their generally hypocritical followers.
Nothing gives anyone, including you, the right to try and 'diagnose' a sinner. Concentrate on making yourself better, and being a good person, and not constantly seeking to criticise others. On a psychological level, all you are doing, deep down, is lookign to substantiate your own beliefs, and make yourself feel superior to others.
Rant over. Best of luck.

Fear of what? Fear of God's punishment? If you have transgressed one
of His Ten Commandments, you should feel fear! God will not change
His Laws, for the sake of a human beeing. You must pay for your own
mistakes; as we all do. If you abide by the Law, you have no reason to
fear. Note that not even Jesus can help you to escape from the con-
sequences of the Law. Jesus is NOT above the Law. Remember that
"The sins against God The Son, and God The Father will be forgiven; but
the sins against the Holly Spirit--i.e., The Son Of Man!--, will NEVER be
forgiven."!
Therefore, if you don't want to feel fear, then you must know the Law;
and to conform yourself, exactly, to It. Obey the Law!; and you'll never feel fear.
Beeing an ignorant, in what concerns the Law, it is a sin. Our primary
concern should be the one of living according to God's Will--and this
supposes to know It; and to understand It. His Will is acting at the level
of the Creation's laws. The laws discovered by the scientists are only a
small part of the laws which are governing His Creation.
In mathematical terms, having faith is a "necessary condition"; but not
a "sufficient condition". We also need Knowledge; the knowledge of the
Truth--which will make us free (but free to obey the Law!!). That kind of
"metaphysical" knowledge will come to us from the Son Of Man--whose
appearance is imminent. But it will be offered only to those of us who
deserve it; to those who will pass the Judgement's (final) Exam.
It is written in the Bible: "And when He will come, He will guide us
through all the Truth (...)". (I quoted from my memory.)

Being told not to be afraid isn't the same as having no fear. Fear is a chemical reaction and not a sign of lack of faith.

Perfect love cast out all fear. So the closer you are to God, the less fear you will have. Fear is lacking faith, that is caused from sin.

Fear isn't a lack of faith. Jesus was afraid. In the garden of Gethsemane (sp?). In fact he was so afraid and stressed that he was bleeding from his pores. He begged the Father to allow the task of dying on the cross to be done by someone else. ("Let this cup pass from me.)
This is not a lack of faith, in fact I think it's full of faith. He knew who God was and what he was asking him to do. But he did it. ("Nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done.")
I believe that Jesus faced this and the bible talks about it so that we have an example of how to act despite our fear. To act in faith and there for we will not sin. If Jesus had rejected the task and did not follow through that would have been sin.

Why would it be sinful to fear? Fear is an autonominous response which releases adrenalin, redirects the blood flow to give us the 'fight or flight' instinct. As for jesus being at our side and being fearful, well, no that wouldnt happen. Fear is a physiological action , when you die it is your soul that is freed not your 'living' body as it where, therefore, you would not experience fear.

Not a scared sinner, but a scared christian. I think fear in a natural part of human nature. I think fear, to a certain limit is a natural reaction.

Firstly, no one has any right to judge anyone as sinful ior not. Jesus Christ bore all our challenges on himself, he was even tempted and derided, and the bible says that perfect love casts out all fear. Methinks the more someone understands what Christ has really done for us, the more the existence of the fear'll subside. In addition if U are conscious that Jesus reigns in and around U, U'll understand that nothing can happen without his permitting it. And "all things work together for good to them that love Him"

I don't believe to have fear is a sin. Fear is natural in all beings but if you believe in a faith then it is said to help you be stronger and loose your fears.
