Sitting and in particular with legs crossed can produce thrombosis! (people died from this condition, after flying long trans-atlantic flights). it' not a joke, you know, it's true!

If your leg becomes numb then it has been too long. Try to find a new postion maybe you'll break the habit and then you'll be safe. Also, you can find a good habit and whenever you try to cross your legs start to lay down or find another position and use it as a replacement, just make sure that the new position doesn't make you numb!!
Good luck, and I hope I helped!

It's not bad for you. I've been sitting with my legs crossed for ages and it hasn't caused any damage.

Your leg gets numb when the blood circulation is inhibited. Something is cutting off the blood supply. Most probably pressure. You've probably noticed that when you uncross your legs or change your position, that the blood flows back into your leg and you get a sensation as if there are thousands of little needles poking you. That too is perfectly normal.

Keeping your legs crossed until one goes numb can cause damage. The numbness means blood (oxygen) is not getting to the tissues and/or that the nerves are being pressed and signals cut off. This is dangerous.

Also, they tell you to get up and walk around on a plane. Leaving your leg cramped anywhere for any period of time can cause blood clots and kill you.

It's a bad habit. Please be careful. Good luck.

PS Maybe get up and walk for a moment anytime you find yourself doing this. Or put something on your lap so you can't!
