Ever since I was young, people have always asked me how many children I would like to have. I always answered, "None," to their shock and dismay. Who else feels this way, and why?

Also, who likes to go around asking people if they want to have children, and why?

I don't plan to have any. Its a concious ethical decision based on my feeling that there are too many of us on the planet already. But everyone is different, and some won't understand that its possible to choose not to reproduce

Well, I don't ask around if they want to have children, but if they are in the age that they 'could' be a parent, I sometimes ask during a conversation if they have children...

Procreation is in the nature of humans as it is in the nature of other creatures. Luckily, we have a choice to control how many children we will get (Birth Control), while other species don't have that advantage.

So having a family and included with that children, is a very normal thing for most. But it is, however, your very own choice and the choice of your partner not to procreate...

I totally agree with you.I don't want to have children either, and I don't understand others that want to have them(they are the selfish ones if we think about the awful life most of us have both as children and adults).I also don't understand why people interfere with our lives telling us to have children, that's nonesense.I think that if people could give up this crazy idea this world would no longer be as terrible as it is.In fact,it would be better if it didn't exist at all, rather than being as it is.

It is natural for a woman to have children. Hence the expression of dismay on hearing negation of this concept. No one can force any one. But the joy of motherhood is to be experienced to be believed. If our parents thought so could we have existed today?

I really could go the rest of my life without having children. My boyfriend wants them, and since we're probably going to get married.......it presents something of an issue. Maybe I'll change my mind when I'm 30....that whole biological clock thing people always talk about.......we'll see!

I have 4 but I never ask other people, that is as rude as people askiing me why I had kids. Not everyone needs children to feel complete,I personally wanted them,2 of my sisters did not,1 had one to please her husband and she was miserable and resented it,they divorced and her son is with Dad,my other sis had none and is 48 and very happy with her decision, she has 17 neices and nephews if she wants to visit kids!Do not let other people make you feel they know what is good for you!

I know it can be annoying. I am a guy, 27yo and people keep asking me when are you going to be married. When I tell them I dont want to get married then they get dismayed. So I understand how you feel.

Girl, you are talking my language. My family is always asking me when I'm gonna settle down and have kids. I have vowed never to spawn. They just want to see us go through the problems they did with children, I guess.

Well, I'm planning to have 2-3 children. But the decision is individual. I think they should just leave you alone and respect your decision not to have children. After all, it's you own life, not theirs...

I will never have children....stick to your guns, don't let anyone else tell you how to run or live your life.....remember YOU will be the one taking care of and paying for that child for the next 18 years!!
