its sadly normal, but try to talk to your boss

Wouldn't it be great if you COULD tell your boss, if you felt that your boss was a good communicator? Well, the first thing is to realize that it isn't YOUR FAULT your boss, the leader in this relationship hasn't given you that confidence and trust that his or her door is open to your ideas and concerns. That's too bad. Since it isn't your fault but you are the one suffering from it, you can pray for spiritual favor with your boss and perhaps you WILL be better able to be honest about your work load. What I did when I was in the same situation with a controlling, micromanaging supervisor with no background in the field when she became my director was PRIORITIZE what HAD to get done and unfortunately, let some things go by the wayside. She burned me out so bad, but the important things were done extremely well, so she never knew that because of her, the whole way I'd done my job for almost 12 years had to change. I re-wrote my own job description so I could cope. So be obedient and professional, but create a system for yourself where you're not working TOO hard, but rather REALLY SMART. Peace and best wishes. Don't forget about that prayer: it truly changes things, just you watch and see.

yes it is a very bad situation but some how u have to communicate to ur boss that u have plenty of unfinished work. otherwise u will be getting more of it and u can't finish them in time and that will be a worse situation.
