I was wondering whether the new Intel Core 2 (2.4Ghz) processor is worth the upgrade or will dual core 3.4 Ghz do for my graphics and animation design?

Both processors will be used in conjuction with 4GB DDR ram and 500GB hard disk, and a 256MB 7900 nVidia graphics card :D

It's a better value to get the Intel Core 2 E6600 at 2.4 Ghz and overclock it -- even with air cooling.

But at this time, the motherboards required for Conroes are scarce to find usable out of the box.

The Core 2 Duo's are the best CPUs on the market right now, period. Whether it is worth it, you will notice some speed gains, nothing fantastic, but noticeable gains. Whether that is worth the money is up to you.
