yes, ejaculation in the vagina is essential.
let's put it this way. the egg from the female needs to be fertilized by the sperm from the male to get pregnant. to do this, the male must ejaculate in the female. the stronger the ejaculation or the deeper the insertion, the less distance the sperm has to travel. usually fertilization of the egg occurs near the ovary in the fallopian tube.
to get pregnant, you also have to consider the day when you have sex or intercourse. if you have a regular menstrual cycle, ovulation (the time when the mature egg is released from the ovary) occurs 14 days after your menstrual cycle (give or take 5 days).
now if you want to have a male child, the egg must be fertilized during the earlier days of your ovulation period since the male sperms swim faster compared to the female sperms (but they die first also due to lack of nutrition). if you want a female, fertilization should occur during the latter part of your ovulation period since female sperms swim slower but last longer.
lol. i know you didn't need that info. anyway, that was just putting things into simpler terms. ask your doctor if you are serious about this. i hope i helped.

Yes, a woman can get pregnant even when ejaculation doesn't occur within the vagina. This is because pre-ejaculation fluid may contain some sperm.
He doesn't have to be in all the way, sperm swim. if you are not ready for a baby, Use precautions!
