If JRR Tolkien were alive today he'd be the oldest Briton alive and rather older than Bilbo at the start of LoTR! He was born in 1892.

If you read Humphrey Carpenter's Biography you'll find out that in the middle 1950's he considered a sequel provisionally entitled 'Return of the Shadow' but decided it 1) wouldn't be very good and 2) would be too similar to Dennis Wheatley to be worth doing.

I don't know if he would have written a sequel to Lord of the Rings, there's already three books there, plus the prequel- The Hobbit, the Silmarillion and several others explaining the culture and history of Middlearth. I'm sure he would be writing something though, and fans would read it.

He might continue writing about Middle Earth, but he wouldn't try to add to the trilogy.

i dont think that he would because of the fact that frodo and gandalf left, so it wouldnt be much of a story without them.

Pretty sure that he wouldn't.
LotR is completely finished book, and there is nothing more to be added to it.
