Everyone has different experiences and emotions with regards to 9/11. Here is mine:
I woke up at 6:30 am (in CA, PST). I took a shower, and got ready for work. My brother came running into my room telling me to turn on the TV. I saw it! the first tower was hit and already burning smoke. Then BOOM! Live on national telivision, the second tower got hit. I was shocked! Awe enraptured me from all sides, and my jaw dropped almost involuntarily. It was unreal at the time, and when I got to work (in Downtown L.A.), they practically closed down the entire city. Next thing, I hear on the radio that the Pentagon was hit, and L.A. was a possible target for terrorist attack. I wasn't scared or anything, but it was truly disturbing watching those haneous attacks. I felt, and still feel sorrow for all those that were lost.
So, what was your 9/11 like?

I just got home from work, turned the TV on like I always do. I was just going to bed, when I heard the "breaking news" on a morning news program. I didn't move from the set for three full days. Words can't even describe how I felt, yet when I think about it, those feelings come flooding back in.

Like a week before 9/11/01 a US military plane accidentally collided with a Chinese fighter jet. The US plane was forced to make an emergency landing in China and the Chinese were holding the crew and the plane...and the US, of course, wanted them both released (which they were, eventually). Anyhow, tensions between US and China were high at that time.
So, on 9/11 I was asleep because I didn't have class until later that day. My roommate comes in and says, "Dude, wake up! Turn on the TV! You gotta see this; we're getting bombed!" And, half asleep, the first thing I thought was "Awww crap, we're at war with China!" After turning on the tube, I realized we weren't...but it was just as bad. The university closed that day and all classes were canceled.

I was on my way to work. I was shocked and didn't know what to do, should I turn around and go home? It just didn't make any sense. I worked for a company that manufactures video equipment for television in Silicon Valley. When I got to work, I just stood in one of the editing rooms, we all stood there silent and crying as the images just kept coming on dozens of monitors. Then I went to my desk and called my coworkers in New Jersey and New York. Then in the UK. As someone else said, I can't explain the feelings, but they come back whenever I talk or think about it.

I was in grade eight. I was in school and some kid tells me that the White House was bombed. That's all I knew until I got home and there was nothing but 9/11 stuff on TV for weeks.

I was stationed overseas in the military while in Japan.
It was already night time there, but morning in the US, so I was at work when I heard it on the news.
