put xp disk in disk drive and restart machine go into the bios and set the CD/DVD to be the primary boot drive and boot off the xp disk u can follow the wizrd there to sort everythin out hopefully!

Reg HDD Config:
All mother boards will have two IDE Interfaces. use two different 80 Pin ribbon cables. Your problem of slave and master configuration is gone. Connect primary to 3.1Gig HDD.
Define boot sequece to boot from CD-ROM then C Drive. Load your OS on C Drive. While installing XP itself, you can format both the drives.
In case you want Win 98 and XP, first install Win 98 then XP.
