the browser will open them and show you the structure, if you want to use them in a script on a web page you should search documentation for The XML Document Object Model (XML DOM) that is used to read xml files.

XML files need no special software to be viewed you can view it in any text editor or even in your browser Its the same for all of the softwares as it contains structured data.
XML is used basically as a feed for Web apps and online applications
