Kim Hughes was captain before Allan Border. He resigned in tears after three tests in the 84-85 series against West Indies in which Clive Lloyd played his last series for the Windies. In the fourth test, in Melbourne I think, Hughes played as a batsman only and Australia drew that game, the Fifth test was in Sydney and Bob Holland spun the Windies out on the fourth day for Australia to win by an innings. I was at the SCG that day to farewell the Supercat (Lloyd) from the sport he loved ( he top scored with 72 on the only test ground in Australia at which he failed to post a century)
