EP = extended play (shorter version, such as bands demo songs , usually contains no more than 5 songs)
LP = Long play. ( full length album, the master piece in other words, EP is like the sample, the baby version)

while the guy who answered before me maybe right (I don't know).
My experience has been that an EP is kinda like a demo that a recording company will put out of a newly signed band, or if a band has switched companies and there is some music already recorded the new company will put out a EP. An LP I always heard referenced to as a vinyl disc the old large black looking things people used to listen to music with. Again that's how I always viewed it.

well ,a ep is basically a single or a couple of songs on a record to promote yourself before you put the real album out, you send this to clubs and dj on the radio and record pools also ,as for the lp its the full album, tape or cd. EP = 3 - 5 SONGS ,.......... LP = 11 - 22 OR MORE SONGS

I dont know what EP and LP stand for, but an EP is kind of like a half-cd, with around 5 songs on it. an LP is a full length cd.

well on a VCR if you play a tape or record it on EP it has 6 hrs whereas LP only has 3 hours so maybe EP just means the longer capacity? yeah so they are NOT the same way to go traxic!!
