The conflict is religious and political. But you could say it all started as a communal split between the children of two brothers. Ironically these people lived together in harmony for centuries....their only conflicts were with the followers of christianity (at various times through the ages).
However, some sixty or seventy years ago, one tribe decided that god had wanted them to have the land and they resorted to terrorist activities against the rulers of the day to achieve their ends. They must have been successful because some fifty years ago the land was given to them and they were allowed to make it a land of their religion and to have rules and laws that applied differently according to which brother you were descended from.
Rich friends from the powers that be all sided with those that considered themselves god's chosen children. This made the 'children of a lesser god' very upset, but they were powerless against the big friends. They got more upset when the big friends also supported their own corrupt and terrible leaders who kept themselves in power with this help.
In frustration they resorted to the same tactics that worked for the chosen children...terrorist tactics against the powers that be. But this time it was considered 'bad' because more people knew about it and more people got hurt and 'times had changed' as they always have aknack of doing once the chosen ones had got their way.
Unscrupulous leaders of the dispossed tribe have not done their people any favours in the last couple of decades as they lost the media war in the countries that mattered. More unsrupulous leaders of other countries decided to use the conflict between the fraternal tribes as a proxy for achieving their strategic interests in the region. For some those interests were religiously motivated, and for others it was economically motivated....but for both it was politics!!

Well .. conflict is totally territorial. The Midle East is the cradle of celestial religions, i.e. Judaism, Christainity & Islam. So, Arabs and Israelis arenot fighting for religious matters.
The conflict started immediately after the end of WWII when the Europeans assisted and sent hundreds of thousands of Jews to Palestine - in compensation for the so-called Holocaust allegedly inflicted upon the Jews by the Europeans.
So, in 1948, the Jews with assistance mainly by the vulgar British, launched a fierce war against the Arabs and occupied their land.
Again in 1967 launched another war and got more land, and so on.
The Arabs were not matching in war cuz they were not prepared for wars. But the Jews came with a pre-determined agression and were preparing themselves well.
They were able to get complacency from some Arab rulers. BUT: Arab people - as any other people on this planet - does not admit what is NOT right.

It’s a fight between cousins.
Both Jews and Arabs claim Abraham as the first of their tribe. Both claim that God gave the land to Abe.
Abraham had two sons.
Ishmael, the son of Hagar.
Isaac, the son of Sarah.
According to the Arabs, Abraham chose Ishmael as his heir.
According to the Jews, Abraham chose Isaac.
They have been fighting over the inheritance ever since.
Abraham should have had a good lawyer (probably a Jewish one, his mother would have been so proud) to draw up his will. Then the problem would have been resolved.
BTW. The international authority (UN) in 1948 partitioned the BRITISH Mandate into Israel and Palestine. (UNGA Res 181). So, according to international law, Israel does own that particular piece of real estate.

The media tries to portray a non secular factor to it, yet different then the incontrovertible fact that they are battling in a quite non secular section, the conflict isn't non secular. The conflict is approximately human dignity. it is partly approximately land, regardless of if it is likewise approximately theft and persecution. The conflict isn't between Muslims and Jews, not between Arabs and Jews, regardless of if it is between Zionists and non-Zionists, so the conflict extends way previous in basic terms the Holy Land. Non-Zionists don't have one particular faith, neither do Zionists. So it is the least non secular it could get. even inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, many Zionists available attempt to portray it as non secular, in basic terms so as that they are able to income sympathy from the human beings by ability of offering a violent factor of the Quran and Islam, to justify their genocide of Muslim majority Palestinians.

It is totally religious...........
These two nations have been fighting since their forefathers were born. Both sides can trace their linage back to the same man.... Father Abraham. Abraham had two sons Ishmael and Isaac, by two different women. The first was from his wife's slave girl (who was an Egyptian) who she gave to him as a surrogate mother because she (wife: Sarah) could not have children. Ishmael was born there after..... but later on, God sent his angels to tell Abraham that he was to be blessed with a son from his wife who was about 90 years old.... after giving birth to Isaac they could not be raised together because they were of two different nations so Abraham sent Ishmael and his mother away but they were cared for by God and Isaac became the inherit er of everything from Abraham, including the blessings from God and since then, the two nations that came from these two sons have been fighting. Ishmael had 12 sons and Isaac had 12 grandsons and they both became Arabians <(Ishmael) and Israelites <(Isaac).
Hope this helps a bit.
