United in a Covenant of Love...David and Jonathan

Another story, that of David and Jonathan, occurs in a time when male warrior/lovers were common and considered noble. This tragic triangle of passion, jealousy and political intrigue between Saul, Jonathan and David, leads to one of the most direct expressions of same-sex love in the Bible: "I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; you have been very pleasant to me. Your love to me was more wonderful than the love of women." (II Samuel 1:26)

No, they were brothers and sons of Zebedee. They and Peter probably worked for Zebedee as fishermen on the Sea of Galilee.

Incidentally, by referring to certain people as "religious nuts who are anti-gay" are you not yourself showing bigotry? People may believe what they wish. What is not correct is to condemn others for their beliefs. Pointing out, in love, a supposed error in someone's ways is a different matter, however. Think about it.

In case you wondered where I was coming from, I believe that we were made by God in the way that we are and that He loves us all, though he may not always love our actions. The only way to know whether what we do is right or wrong is to develop a relationship with Him and, in humility, to ask for guidance.
