Mr. and Mrs. Smith own a 640 square meter lot in Atlanta. They used 8 tenths of the lot for their house. Of the remaining they used 3 tenths of the lot for the garden. How big is the garden?

Alright now some of you is easy for them but since im still young help me please. Im in Philippines so its school day for us :(( but we get early summer than you :). anyway pls explain it so i can understand it .

they used 8 tenths for the house. The remaining is 2 tenths of 640, which is 2/10*640 = 128 sq.m

of this they used 3/10 for garden = 3/10*128 = 38.4 sq.m

lol. the question isnt all that easy. its actually kind of a trick question in a way. bcuz like i read the question wrong, and thought the garden was 3/10 of the WHOLE LOT. so that wouldnt make sense bcuz 8/10+3/10=11/10. but after rereading the question a couple times, i finally understood it. so dont feel stupid or anything.

ok so first divide 640 by 10 so u can get what 1/10 of the total property is.
640/10=64.

now multiply 64 and 8 to know how big the house is.
64*8=512

now subtract 512 from 640 to get the remaining square meters in the lot.
640-512= 182

so now, divide 82 by 10 so then u know how much 1/10 of the remaining space is.
182/10=18.2

now multiply 18.2 and 3 so then u get the total square meters used for the garden.
18.2*3= 54.6

so the garden is 54.6 square meters.

i hope that made sense to you and helped you! <3

This just says they used 1/8 * 640 sq. m. for the house, or 640/8 = 80. It means, they have original 640 - 80 = 560 left for other things. Then, they used 3/10 of that for the garden. So, the garden would be 3/10 * 560, which would be 168.

You will take 640 (the square meter lot) divide by ten to see what one tenth of the entire lot is. That answer is 64, then take 64 and multiply by 3 to see what 3 tenths of the lot is and that will be your garden size.

Given:
640 sq.m. - total area of the lot
8/10 of 640 sq.m. - area of the house
2/10 of 640 sq.m. - remaining area of the lot

Solution:
solving for the area of the house
8/10*640 sq.m.= 512 sq.m.

solving for the remaining area of the lot
2/10*640 sq.m. = 128 sq.m.

And since the garden is 3/10 of the remaining lot as stated on the problem, it should be expressed as:

3/10 of 128 sq.m.

Solving for the final area of the garden:

3/10*128 = 38.4 sq.m.

Therefore, 38.4 sq.m. is the area of the garden

640 square Meter Lot

8/10 of the lot is in use

3/10 of the lot remains

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

solve for the amount of lot in use.

640(8/10) = 512 squared meters

Multiplying 640 times 8 = 5120 divided by 10 = 512

640 - 512 = 128

Subtracting 640 minus 512 = 128

128(3/10) = 38.4 squared meters remaining

They used 8 tenth of the lot for their house so they have 2/10 left.

10/10-8/10 =2/10

One tenth of the lot is 640/10= 64.So they have 64x2=128 left. And they used 3/10 of this lot for the garden.so

128*3/10 = 38,4 sq mtr is their garden.

8 tenths of 640 is 512
640 minus 512 is 128 remaining area
3 tenths of 128 is 38.4
so, the area of the garden is 38.4 sq.m

8 tenths and 3 tenths make up 11 tenths the garden can only be 2 tenths i.e.128 sq.m.

640 m² ang kabuuang sukat ng kanilang lote

You have given that they used 8 tenths of the whole lot for the house.

Therefore, they have used the remaining 2 tenths of the lot for others, and the 3 tenths of this remaining lot is used for the garden.

Thus, the total area for the garden is:

3/10's of 2/10's of 640 m²,

Since "of" means multiplication (usually with fractions), then that total area is also equal to:
3/10 x 2/10 x 640 m²

Simplifying yields to
38.4 m²

Hope this helps,
kevin!

Kung hindi mo naintindihan tatagalugin ko na para sa iyo.

640 m² is their total lot

38.4 m²

Sana ay nakatulong ang ginawa kong ito!,
kevin!
